Romeo and Juliet is one of the most famous plays in the history. In spite of the play was written more than four hundred years ago, people today are still watching it in difference languages as plays, films, musicals and we`re even reading it as books. In 1595, when the play was written the culture and traditions were very different from today and many things have changed since then. But in spite of all the changes the last 400 years, Romeo and Juliet is still relevant for people today. But why, and in which extent is it still so relevant? And do the themes have something to do with the relevance? In this article am I going to try to explain the themes in Romeo and Juliet and discuss why it`s relevant for people today.

Which themes?

There are many themes in Romeo and Juliet. The first theme I thought of after I watched the

play is love. I think other people also thought theme is love because the story is mainly about

two people who become in love to each other. Another theme I think of in Romeo and Juliet is

conflict or family conflict, because Juliet`s family called Capulet are enemies with Romeo`s

family called Montague. This leads to many fights between the members of the families and

in worst case death which again make the hate come stronger between the families. Because

of the fact that their parents hate each other the love between Romeo and Juliet is very

unsuitable. An under theme to love would therefore be forbidden or unsuitable love, because

their parents would never let Romeo marry Juliet and they would probably even forbid them

to see each other again. I also mean that the theme in the play can be unsuitable love because

Juliet is supposed to marry her cousin and when she becomes in love with Romeo she
