Summary

In this task, we've chosen to investigate biogas as an energy resource. The survey is conducted by social science methods, with literature reviews and three cases with depth interviews. A common denominator for all the respondents, is that they mainly use manure from livestock to produce energy.

The results of the survey shows us that biogas has a potencial to be an energy resource for the society. Per today, the livestock fertilizer is only prioritized to spread on the fields and used in soil improvement. This task has showed us that the fertilizer can be used to other things than this.

By running the fertilizer through a biogas building, it'll be possible to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, since the methane is then removed. This is important because the methane is a more aggressive greenhouse gas than CO2.

Methane is made under anaerobic conditions, when the methanogenesis bacteria breaks down the total residue in the fertilizer. The methane gas is rising, and then tapped. It can be used to gas, heat, electricity or fuel. After the fertilizer's been through the process, the output measures has changed the final composition of the nutrient and the consistency. The nitrogene in the output measures, has gone from being only nitrogene to ammonium basic because of the chemical reaction. The fertilizer has become a homogeneous, liquid mass. When the fertilizer is spread on cultivated fields, the nutrient'll be easier accesible for the plant.

Today, it's not profitable to operate the biogas production in Norway, mostly because the framework conditions ain't right for this. So that Norway won't be left behind its neighboring countries, it is important with a strong commitment within the area. The demand for production and purchase of biogas has to gain. In order to achieve this, farmers and customers must get stronger on the field.

Through the depth intervires, we had insight in the experiences the individual had earned around the biogas production. As expected, it was both positive and negative aspects of the production. The objects have in common that they're pioneers within biogas production in their municipality.

Fertilizer is the farmer's gold. It's important to have the knowledge about appropriate utilization and usage.
