DIMMU BORGIR - TERMINAL PRESS SUMMONS THE FURY OF BLACK METAL WITH 'DARK FORTRESS'

Terminal Press

and Nuclear Blast Records have teamed up for one of the

most brutal comics of the year with "Dimmu Borgir: Dark

Fortress." This is the first in a series of books influenced by

the lyrical, artistic and musical concepts from Nuclear

Blast’s polarizing roster of bands translated into the comic

medium by the creative teams at Terminal Press.

Three reluctant men are chosen to quest to the Dark Fortress in a

desperate attempt to protect their land from a growing evil. Despite a

legend warning that the harsh land built upon lava fields is actually the

gateway to Hell, they make their way across the treacherous path,

encountering horrors, madness and death along the way. The three men will

either survive the journey and learn the secret behind the legend of the

Dark Fortress, or meet a most gruesome demise.

"Dimmu

Borgir: Dark Fortress" utilizes the artistic vision and lyrical

themes of the biggest Black Metal band in the world, DIMMU

BORGIR, to create a powerful and thought-provoking fantasy horror

comic book.

"I am artistically influenced and more passionate

about metal music than any other genre or medium” says

Terminal Press publisher and writer Brian

Ferrara. “This is a project that I have always wanted to do

and have thought about for years. I wanted to bring metal bands into comics

in a way that would do them justice. These are books for fans of the bands,

but they will also be able to stand on their own."

"Dimmu Borgir: Dark Fortress" is written by

Brian Ferrara (Silent Assassin, Debbie Does Dallas), with

art by Narek Gevorgian (Silent Assassin, Tell Them Johnny Wadd is Here).

A "Dimmu Borgir: Dark Fortress" preview

book containing original artwork and pin-ups created specifically for this

edition will be available as a San Diego Comic Con

Exclusive at the Nuclear Blast Records booth

(#116). The Limited Edition print run will only be available at

the convention and through TerminalPress.com .

"Dimmu Borgir: Dark Fortress" will be available later

this year from Terminal Press. A promo image is available

Dear fanatics and lovers of unrelenting music -

Again it is my pleasure to salute you from my oaken writing desk in Berlin, Germany. Summer has finally come to Europe, and I stay inside in order to communicate these happy news to you: The third Sturmgeist album "Manifesto Futurista" is now available for preorder! The third release on Inhuman Music is numbered and signed by hand, as usual limited to 1000 copies. As a member of my limited mailing list, you are the first to hear about the album, to read the tracklist - and if you are quick, you can get your hands on Manifesto Futurista #1! The first cd goes to the one who preorders first, cd number two to the second preorder, etc. If you don't want to waste time, go to www.sturmgeist.no and be the first to make your preorder!

At www.sturmgeist.no you will also find the cover artwork, a full tracklist and lyrics for two of the songs, "Manifesto Futurista" and "Sturmgeist_89".

The creation of "Manifesto Futurista" is a dark story. After the school shootings in Tuusula, Finland in November 2007, I considered disbanding Sturmgeist altogether. Pekka-Eric Auvinen, who killed nine people and himself at the school in Jokela, used "Sturmgeist89" as the login for his YouTube account. On November 8th, 2007, I sat by this very desk when a news reporter called me from Oslo. He asked me questions about Sturmgeist. Why was a news reporter interested in a band that only had an underground following at the time? Well, as he had found out that Auvinen was a fan of Sturmgeist, he wanted to ask me a few questions. That week I answered questions to a number of media in Norway and Finland, commenting on the dark lyrics of Sturmgeist and on how a youngster like Auvinen could possibly think. I hated every minute of it. Every damn minute. I am a writer and musician - all of a sudden I was sitting there like some pop sociologist, expected to have an informed opinion on black metal, horror movies, online games or whatever else could have made that young Finn a murderer. I wrote a press release, and gradually, things calmed down. However, the questions remained: Did Sturmgeist - I - have anything to do with it - as in being responsible for Auvinen's killings? Over some agonising months I slowly decided that the answer would have to be negative. The gods shall know that I thought the question over a thousand times.

I recruited an American drummer living in Berlin, Vincent, and in April 2008 we started working on "Manifesto Futurista". The album is the most extreme, uncompromising and emotionally laden recording I have ever produced. The synths, groans and arty ideas are gone - inhuman black metal is all that remains, with furious screams over brutal blastbeats. Though you may probably guess that the album was executed by someone with a background in avantgarde black metal, I am almost tempted to label it TNBM. The guitars and bass were recorded from vintage amps in a desolate studio in Sofia, Bulgaria - in the Socialist era the studio had been owned by the State. Outside one could hear the hooves of horses clattering on cobblestones, when the Gypsies roamed the neighbourhood in their carts, looking for odd bits or scraps to sell. The neighbourhood displayed an excruciating poverty that made my very soul cry. Decaying high-rise buildings loomed all over the place, telling the true story of utopian Socialism's demise in the East. I left with furious riffing on my hard drives.

Back in Berlin I recorded the vocals in my home studio, "Das Herrenzimmer" (I love antique furniture and possess a so-called Herrenzimmer, a "gentleman's room", a set of oaken furniture consisting of desk, chair and bookcase, all massive and embellished with intricate engravings). Due to my sad experiences in Sofia - the poverty and Untergangsstimmung really got to me - I waited until August to pick up the project again. In Berlin I hired Vangelis Labrakis and Stamos Koliousis (also members of Greek BM band Mencea) to mix the album. I could hardly believe my ears - never had anything so totally aggressive, tortured and desperate left my lab. Today I uploaded the opening track "Monolith" to www.sturmgeist.no, so that you can decide for yourself.

I love the album because of its intensity - the ten songs are both charged with emotion and unusually concise (at least for something emanating from me), most of them ticking in under three minutes. I have given you a little bit of the album's history, and hope that you will preorder - and appreciate - "Manifesto Futurista". The albums comes as an elegant six-page digipack complete with a booklet containing the album lyrics. Label designers Trine & Kim (www.trineogkim.no) have designed the cover in black/white.

The artwork ought to be mentioned: The artist Pushwagner generously granted me the right to use his monumental "Dadadata I" as the cover artwork of "Manifesto Futurista". I met Pushwagner at a vernissage in Berlin last year, and was struck by the darkness and extreme details of his art. The ominous ambiance of "Dadadata I" matches the concept of the album perfectly, as you can see a uniformed mass of engineers looking at civilisation - I cannot tell whether they are about to develop or to destroy it. Both artwork and music reek of 20th-century doom and gloom. Check out Push's further works at www.pushwagner.no.

As the true hardcore you are always the first to know. On Walpurgisnacht (April 30th) I will announce "Manifesto Futurista" through the usual channels. For preorders placed now I will ship the cds by May 15th. The official release dato will be months later. Thus, you will hold the album in your hands before anyone else in the business. As shipping and production costs have increased significantly, I have set the price of the album to 20€ including shipping world wide. With the new postage system it is much cheaper to send several cds at the time, hence I offer two cds for 34 euros, three for 48€ and four for 60€. By ordering with friends you ought to get a good deal. If in addition to the Sturmgeist album you also want Solefald's "The Circular Drain" and G.U.T.'s "My Only Drug Is Madness", I can offer you the three cds for 45€.

Over the past two years I have shipped hundreds of cds to all corners of the planet. I take pride in making sure that the albums reach you soundly and safely. The few postal problems that occured have all been settled to the satisfaction of client and label alike.

In conclusion, some joyous news for the Solefald fans among you: Today Indie Recordings announced that they have signed Solefald for two albums, the first of which is to appear this autumn! We are happy to be at Indie and work away at our seventh full-length album. As the very first you learn the working title of the album: NORRØN LIVSKUNST (meaning "The Norse Art of Living" in Norwegian). Expect universal harmonies hitherto unheard.

Yours,

Sturmgeist / Cornelius von Jackhelln
