Et par ord om kampen på søndag. Fra football365s spalte "big weekend"

Arsenal

Since losing to Spurs back in October, Arsenal have won seven from their last eight league games. However, only one of those (against Chelsea), could really be described as a particularly tough test. The rest were against Sunderland, Stoke, West Brom, Norwich, Fulham, Wigan and Everton. Now they face Manchester City on Sunday.

This is not to necessarily denigrate Arsenal's form over the last couple of months. Indeed, to recover from the shambles that was the start of their season is an incredibly impressive feat. However, while those wins have pushed them back to within touching distance of the top four, it's games against the best that will determine whether their recovery is complete.

As is standard with Arsenal, injuries are providing something of an obstacle to their progress, with all four of their specialist senior full-backs indisposed. This led to the Stoke-ian sight of four centre-backs making up their defence last weekend, which is fine against a side in such shonky shape as Everton are at the moment, but against the best team in the country?

A couple of us at F365 have a sneaking suspicion Arsenal might get something at Eastlands. If they do, it might be proof that they're back.

Roberto Mancini

It will be interesting to see how Mancini sets up his side on Sunday. The logical way to try an exploit a side without specialist full-backs is to tell each winger to stick themselves on the touchlines and attack the stand-ins down the flanks. However, City's wingers tend to operate as 'inside out' wide men, looking to cut in rather than outside, and the width is generally provided by attacking full-backs.

However, much of Arsenal's recent threat has come from Gervinho and Theo Walcott, so whoever plays at full-back cannot bomb on too enthusiastically, lest the space left is exploited. The trouble is, City have a few issues in that department.

"I think Micah (Richards) will be OK for Sunday," said Roberto Mancini this week. "Then we have Pablo (Zabaleta), who can play on the left."

With Alex Kolarov injured and Gael Clichy suspended, it's a bloody good job that Richards is available and Zabaleta adaptable. However, given Zabaleta will not offer the sort of attacking width that Clichy or Kolarov would, Mancini is left with the choice of not exploiting an obvious weakness or asking one of his men to play a slightly alien role.

Manchester City

Of course, tactical considerations aside, these are the sort of games when we find out if City have - for want of a better phrase - the cojones to maintain their title form.

After their first league defeat of the season, they might have wanted a relatively simple task to get back on track, but arguably this sort of game is more useful. What better way to send a message to the rest than recovering from a defeat to Chelsea by beating Arsenal?

In addition, we may find out if Chelsea exposed some fragilities, or whether the turning point of the game at Stamford Bridge was one of the two big refereeing decisions (the Silva penalty and the Clichy red card) that many, including Mancini, have concluded.

A win for City and the Chelsea game can be written off as a blip. Another defeat and more serious questions might be asked.
