まだ「昭和」と呼ばれた１９８７年、僕の最初の作品であるメタルギアは生まれました。当時は続編やシリーズ化の事など頭になく、ただ「いいものを創ろう！」とがむしゃらに制作したのを憶えています。気づけば、メタルギアは世界中のファンに支えられ，この度、２０周年を迎えることができました。この２０年、がんばってこられたのも、ひとえにメタルギアを愛してくれているファンの皆様のおかげだと思っております。この記念すべき年に、我々の感謝の気持ちとしてこの２０周年記念版を製作しました。それぞれには当時の我々や皆様の思いが、時代の匂いと共に染みついていることと思います。どうか、メタルギアSAGAをお楽しみください。

Back in the year 1987, when it was still the Shôwa period, my first work, Metal Gear, was born. I remember then that such things as sequels and to change the series weren’t in my head, and I worked frantically to manufacture something with just the idea ”Let’s make something good!”. To be able (lit.: If I could take notice) to support the fans of Metal Gear from all over the world, this time I have managed to bring you with me on this 20th anniversary. I (humbly) think that it is because of each and everyone of you that love Metal Gear that we have been able to persevere for 20 years. As this is the year that it should be commemorated, we have manufactured this 20th anniversary edition to show our feelings of gratitude. I think that each of us and all of you should be thinking about the smells and stains of time that have been attached together here. And with that, please enjoy the Metal Gear Saga.
