For those of you who haven’t purchased a Playstation 3 yet (come on, unless you live in one of those 3 countries without access to the sun, you should get a move on) I’ve decided to collect together what I feel is the “Ultimate” PS3 Package, something that combines what the PS3 is all about as of this point in time. You can buy your T.V. sets seperately, as there really isn’t one “perfect” set. So, here’s what you’ll need to make one of these bad-boys:

-60GB Playstation 3 System ($600 USD)

To make the ultimate collection, you need the system, even though the 20GB was phased out here in the US, the 60GB console is superior enough to warrant the extra $100. In this package, you get a Playstation 3 unit, with a 60GB Hard Drive for your downloading pleasures, one SixAxis remote, all sorts of power cords, charging cables, and input cables. You also get the built-in Card Reader, which enables you to load data off of virtually every kind of memory stick, this enables you to show off those pictures, videos, and music on your fancy new HD-TV with surround sound, as opposed to several small devices. The 60GB console also has built-in Wi-Fi, so that you can go anywhere in your house and still play online. You also get that awesome silver bar on the front of the system, which just looks so cool.

-HDMI Cables (>$10)

Sadly, HDMI cables are not included with the PS3, however you can find some pretty high-quality ones for $10-$20 on the internet via Ebay, amazon.com, and various other retailers. HDMI allows you to get the highest-quality video resolutions on your games and Blu-Ray films, and really lets you brag to all those people in the neighborhood who still believe that Standard won’t go away in the coming years.

-Linksys Wireless-G Router ($35)

Linksys makes excellent reouters for wireless acees to the internet. While the Wireless-G router isn’t the fastest on the market, it is easily affordable and gives you access to near-flawless transfer rates and speeds. It easily supports games like Resistance at a solid framerate from well over 50 feet away, through solid walls even. You could upgrade to a Wireless-N router later on down the road to get even more solid access. Just don’t throw out the Ethernet cable included in your PS3, you could possibly need that someday if someone spills coffee or soda on the router.

-Microphone ($25-$30 for Bluetooth, $10-$20 for PS2 USB mic)

Either your old PS2 USB microphone that you got with Socom or a fancy new Bluetooth microphone will do, they both work fine. The microphone provides essential means of communication in online gaming, and allows you to have a chat session with people on your friends list. It is great to have to hear peoples’ reactions to being blown up by your LAARK in Resistance or being pummeled into a rock wall in Motorstorm.

-An Extra SixAxis Controller ($50)

If you have friends or family members that like to play games, then this is well worth the money spend. There are so many opportunities to play with or against others on the PS3, and is a good way to spend quality time with your family without getting that awkward feeling or talking about some older relative you don’t know.

-Playstation Network Master Account (Free)

You’ll need one of these to play online, just sign up via an icon on the XMB, and you’re off to explore one of the most diverse and sophisticated onlinbe networks available to date. You can play games like Resistance and Motorstorm, download demos, trailers, and add-on packs to the latest games, and chat with your fellow Playstation fans through text, voice, and video chat. Upcoming services like Home only further the PSN’s robust offerings to the online gaming community.

-Resistance: Fall of Man ($60)

Resistance is undoubtedly the PS3’s current “Killer-App” and one of the highest-quality shooters to come out in quite some time. The game contains a campaign, which lasts about 9 hours, and can be played with a friend using a second SixAxis, and a stellar multiplayer scheme. You can play with up to four people offline, and up to 40 online. The battles in Resistance get really chaotic from time to time, and provide some of the most enjoyable experiences ever to hit the online world. With an ever-expanding online experience (soon to go worldwide) and plenty of unlockables both offline and online, Resistance truly shows off the PS3’s Versatility in both the offline and online gaming communities.

-The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion ($60)

If you are looking for one of the longest gaming experiences you will ever have, look no further than Oblivion. The game combines first-person controls with swordfighting and spellcasting to provide a true medieval experience for all those of you tired of hiding that toy lightsaber and wooden shield from Medieval Times in your closet. Instead of setting the adventure for you, Oblivion lets you go off on your own path, to explore the 16 kilometers of territory, dozens of dungeons, and hundreds of questlines at your own pace. With well over 300 hours of potential gameplay (and an upcoming expansion pack which will add between 30 and 50 extra hours) some of the most beautiful environments I have seen outside of Natural Parks, and the ability to craft your own adventure, Oblivion is certainly something that you won’t want to miss.

-Ninja Gaiden Sigma Demo (Free)

It is one of the most anticipated games on the PS3 and will be releasing in just under two weeks, yet downloading this demo is well worth it even after the game’s release. It will give you some experience for one of the hardest Action/Adventure games on the market and will actually affect your gameplay experience in the final game (through the instant access of in-game “cash” orbs to buy weapons and healing potions).

-Gran Turismo HD (Free)

Gran Turismo has always been the most realistic racing simulator series on the market, and GTHD doesn’t disappoint. With some sleek graphics, exceptionally realistic control, and a roster containing several cars which no one using the internet will probably ever get, it is a car-freak’s dream. The game gives a brief glimpse at what will be in Gran Turismo 5, and will constantly be updated with new content such as damage physics until GT5’s release.

-Calling All Cars ($10)

Calling All Cars is arguably the best PSN downloadable game available in the US at this time. While relatively simplistic in concept, the game has a high degree of longevity thanks to full online play, with the ability to bring a buddy online with you, and several unlockable car models. The game gets really addicting upon purchase and provides hours of fun and last-second defeats that induce severe amounts of sarcastic profanity from your friends.

-Casino Royale Blu-Ray ($20-$30)

Casino Royale was one of the most successful films of last year, and appeared on Blu-Ray back in March with one of the highest-quality HD transfers yet. It is an excellent way to show off how much of a Bond fanatic or an HD Afficionato you are, plus the movie just plain rocks.

-Planet Earth Blu-Ray ($60-$90)

While it is a relatively expensive package, the Planet Earth Blu-Ray is quite possibly the best way to show off your new HD-TV and PS3. The mini-series event was filmed entirely in HD and aired on the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet earlier this year, achieveing many awards and appraisals for its cinematic beauty. Think of it like taking the Mona Lisa, except making it look like the greatest thing ever, then putting it on a big, High-Definition TV. Truly the best way to show off anything High-Definition.

So, there you have it, the “Ultimate” PS3 Package as of June 21, 2007. Everything that you need to show off your new High-Definition Multimedia machine is in here, and it will only cost you about $950, not including taxes.

Sure, it might be a steep price range at the moment, but when you wake up one Sunday Morning and see Grandma sitting in your living room, playing Resistance, and trash-talking her opponents, you’ll know that it was all worth it.
