Saddam samarbeidet ikke med Al Qaida!

"Could a Google Search Have Helped Prevent the War in Iraq?

The 'Smoking Gun' Letter, Citing a Deal to Sell Uranium to Saddam Hussein, Was Obvious Forgery, Says a New Book.

April 10, 2007 — It was a simple letter, just more than 100 words on two pieces of paper.

(...)

The July 2000 letter, which was obtained from Italian intelligence services, appeared to be an official correspondence from the Niger government to the president of Iraq, confirming a deal to sell 500 tons of pure uranium to Iraq annually.

But if the CIA had done a simple Internet search on some of the terms used in the letter, the agency would have quickly learned that it was a forgery."

Det fremgår av artikkelen at en journalist (Elisabetta Burba) kun trengte 15 minutter med Googling for å avdekke feil;

"The documents had been peddled by rogue Italian intelligence agents to fellow spies and journalists, including Elisabetta Burba, a reporter for the Italian magazine Panorama, according to Eisner and Royce. After getting the documents from one-time security officer Rocco Martino, Burba found major flaws after 15 minutes of browsing the Internet."

Ikke rart at hun fikk hakeslepp når hun senere så George W. Bush sin "State of the Union" tale hvor han siterte fra brevet.

"When Bush cited the claims in his State of the Union speech on Jan. 28, 2003, Burba couldn't believe his words. "That was a story she'd had and hadn't written because she'd determined the information it was based on was bogus," according to the book."

"I was looked at straight in the face and told that Saddam Hussein had the means of delivering those biological and chemical weapons of mass destruction by unmanned drones, called UAVs, unmanned aerial vehicles. Further, I was looked at straight in the face and told that UAVs could be launched from ships off the Atlantic coast to attack eastern seaboard cities of the United States. Is it any wonder that I concluded there was an imminent peril to the United States?"

Men det mangler ikke på eksempler på deres løgnmaskineri :

"Someone clearly invented false stories about the anthrax investigation and fed them to Brian Ross, knowing he would run all over ABC News programs heaping blame on Saddam for those attacks. In fact, Ross said that there were at least four highly-placed, separate sources who told him that.

How can ABC and Ross justify continuing to conceal the identity of these sources -- some of whom, presumably, were and still are in the Bush administration -- when those sources concocted lies with the intent to manipulate Ross and the American public into believing that Saddam Hussein was responsible for the anthrax attacks?"
