USB lagring kommer til Wii

Snart vil det bli mulig å lagre ting på USB lagringsenheter.

(Tokyo, Japan - April 4, 2007) eSOL Co., Ltd. announced today that their leading embedded middleware products, “PrFILE2″ FAT file system and “PrUSB/Host” USB host stack, were selected for the “WiiTM”, from Nintendo Co.;.

 

Both software products constitute fundamental functionalities in the Wii console - managing and transferring data and files with external media. In particular, PrFILE2 provides file management functions which read and write data of theSD memory card, as well as other media;. PrUSB/Host functions are used in Wii, to provide USB host functions.

About PrFILE2

 

PrFILE2 is a FAT file system supporting FAT12/16/32 and VFAT. It has an architecture that can support application specific customization requests flexibly and quickly. Also, it has a fast backward seek function for file pointer, a function to minimize the file system destruction at accidental power shutdown or media removal, and other essential functions for the next generation of digital electronics devices. PrFILE2 provides a rich lineup of media drivers including compact flash and SD card.

 

About PrUSB/Host

 

PrUSB/Host is a USB host stack compliant to USB1.1 and 2.0 (Full Speed/High Speed) specifications to implement USB host functions in an embedded system. By embedding PrUSB/Host, direct communication with USB devices is supported without using PC. Optional Mass Storage class driver enables using USB flash memory, other mass storage device and digital camera as the external storage.

Personlig tror jeg dette er et tegn på at Nintendo gjør noe for å gjøre en eventuel Demo Channel mer tilgjengelig for folk, slik at det vil finnes flere måter å laste ned ting på en bare SD-kort.

Om det kommer, noe det ser ut som det gjør, en USB lagringsenhet til Wii så vil det si at Nintendo må ha noen store planer for konsollen. De har allerede snakket om å bringe nedlastbare ting til spillene sin (kilde), så det blir spennende å se hva de kan gjøre med denne.

 

Ryktene om en demokanal har og florert rundt nette så det er vel ikke utenkelig at det kommer en demo kanal i fremtiden.

A Nintendo rep may have spilled the beans.

Allegedly, a Nintendo of Europe representative recently revealed that a demo channel for Wii is on the way. Information and details of the possible new channel were not given.

 

Theoretically, Wii owners could download playable demos (or view trailers) through the new channel. The service would more than likely be free of charge and would give gamers a way to preview upcoming games. Additionally, demos for DS games could also be downloaded and played on the DS.
