Ny PS3 med 80 GB?

In a filing dated earlier this month, Sony contacted the US Federal Communications Commission to request a "Class II permissive change" to the PLAYSTATION 3. This was done in accordance with changes to the included Bluetooth antenna and came from the Sony Coporation's Product Quality Office.

 

While FCC filings are generally dry as dust, this one has an interesting addition. A new PLAYSTATION 3 model (CECHE01) with an 80GB hard disk was listed as an additional inclusion to the original FCC grant. The two current model numbers CECHA01 and CECHB01 specify the 60GB and 20GB versions, respectively.

 

A 20GB jump from the top of the line PLAYSTATION 3 seems like an odd additional SKU, but we've seen stranger things happen.

 

Could this new hard disk represent a totally new model or simply a storage upgrade? Will the 80GB PS3 at some point become the lower-end model? We've heard in the past from inside sources that the Ken Kutaragi was pushing for the introduction of a 250GB model PS3, so future models of the console may feature increased storage. We'll be contacting Sony in the morning to gather additional details.

Mer enn nok SKUs allerede. Å ha 2-3 versjoner av hver konsoll kommer bare til å forvirre folk enda mer.

Hvis man trenger mer plass er det jo bare å kjøpe en ekstern HD!

Det er jo bare å bytte ut den 2,5" disken selv da. Sitter på siden og man mister ikke garantien...

Med tanke på at man kan bytte HD med bare en skrue. Så ser jeg ikke det store i dette. Kjekt for de som skal ha PS3 til jul, viss det er en 80gb versjon der ute.

Visst dette er trenden for konsoller fremover, så kan jeg ikke si jeg liker det. Konsollen bør iallefall bli noen år før de begynner å forandre på den..

De bør i alle fall ikke forandre noen på hardwaren. det blir bare for teit! Da blir det som en data i "konsollforpakning"

Har sett en del på Ebay som selger PS3 med 80gb. De har oppgradert harddisken i maskinen;)

120GB PS3 Expansion Pack for £46.40

 

What with all the hoo-hah this week about Microsoft’s all-singing, all-prancing new Elite Xbox 360 model, SPOnG decided to do a little bit of research into expanding the capacity of thier shiny new PS3’s hard drive.

 

What they found out was a rather pleasant surprise, as one can pick up a PS3-compatible 120 GB Fujitsu drive from Scan Computers online for a measly £46.40, including value added tax. Now that’s a bargain!

 

So, how easy would it be for your standard “tech-tard” to fit one of these?

 

SPOnG’s resident "tech-spert" (sorry!), Gavin informs us that it’s fairly simple, as there are clear instructions in the PS3 manual.

Ser ut som om ryktet om 80GB PS3 er avkreftet.

 

Sony has told Eurogamer today that it currently has no plans to produce an 80GB PS3, despite emerging reports that it filed with the FCC for the model.

 

"The 80GB we're not making a comment on, but we don't have any plans at the moment," a spokesperson for Sony Europe told Eurogamer.
