The release of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd and a brand new PSP bundle pack had customers swarming stores all over Japan earlier today.

In America, it takes a special title, like a Madden or a Halo, to make gamers line up four hours in freezing weather just to be the first in line to snatch up a copy of a new video game. In Japan, it takes any game with the words "Monster Hunter" slapped on it.

Earlier today, fans of the series surrounded stores across Japan in an effort to get their hands on Monster Hunter Portable 2nd, Capcom's latest entry in the smash hit series, which also came packaged in an optional bundle featuring a brand new "Champagne Gold" PSP.

According to Famitsu.com, one Yodobashi Camera store in Shinjuku (a famous shopping district in Tokyo) saw people start lining up as early as 5:30 AM. Although the line became 30 strong an hour before the store opened, that number soon ballooned to 140 people.

Although not anywhere nearly as popular as it is across the Pacific, the Monster Hunter Portable series has been released under the title Monster Hunter Freedom in America. No word from Capcom whether this latest installment will be released in America, or whether it will sport a title slightly more creative than Monster Hunter Freedom 2.
