Samletråd om Command & Conquer 3?

Anbefalte innlegg

Hei

Man vet aldri

Overall: EA has finally nailed it; this is a worthy sequel to C&C.

--PART 1--

THE ARTICLE

- The map/mission selection screen might be a bit of a letdown to some; it doesn't seem "very well fleshed out" because it usually gives only two different paths to take at the most, and usually doesn't seem to impact the end result.

- Campaign missions can be anywhere from 10 to 45 minutes long on average.

- The missions are very well-constructed and varied; the single-player is going to be exciting and nearly without boredom.

* Some of these (commando) missions take inspiration from Red Alert with goals to use a single unit to clear the way for a larger force.

* The "GDI Commando" is a very tough unit that can mow down squads of infantry, plant explosive charges on buildings, etc. You know where I'm coming from. :) He also has a "jump jet" that he can use to fly over obstacles, etc.

* The "Nod Commando" can cloak and uses a rapid-fire laser.

* The Scrin have several great units but their "mastermind," unarmed, relies on mind-controlling units.

- Superweapons cause playing defensively to not be a very viable strategy.

* Disappointingly, the ion cannon's beam can't be controlled when fired (ala Generals); it instead hits one spot and is apparently similar in its damage to a nuclear missile.

- With the game's fast pace, the top of the tech tree can be reached usually in around 10 minutes.

- There are 37 missions in all; every mission has secondary/bonus objectives to complete that add to replay value. (Example: Destroying an airfield to prevent reinforcements.)

- A powerful "walker" unit is available at the top of the tech tree for all 3 factions.

*Once this unit is destroyed, the hull is left behind and can be captured by an engineer to be used against its own faction!

* Nod's Avatar war mech can rip parts off other vehicles to gain their abilities.

* The Scrin's Annihilator tripod fires lasers that target units independently, making it idealistic for taking on groups of enemies

* The GDI's Juggernaut mobile artillery walker can bombard any target on the map, but ONLY as long as it has a sniper to provide proper line of sight for the enemies being targetted; without a sniper, this unit is very vulnerable.

- Each faction has a ton of unique units that set it apart from the others, making each faction a unique experience of its own

* GDI, for example, has an APC that can be garrisoned with troops that shoot out of it (think the Humvee on Generals).

* Nod, for example, has light defensive structures with 3 turrets on one central hub; when a turret is destroyed, it will rebuild itself unless the entire hub is destroyed (think in terms of how GLA structures would rebuild if they weren't totally destroyed).

* Scrin, for example, has melee infantry (unlike the other 2 factions) called "Buzzers" that can link themselves to vehicles and slash any infantry that come close.

* These examples are "just scratching the surface" of the unit differences for each side.

- Cut-scenes, though somewhat cheesy, do a great job of telling the story.

* All cut-scenes, even the very first, can be skipped. (Excellent news for those wishing to replay the game or get right into the action)

- Graphically, the game isn't very innovative; when zoomed up, infantry don't look very impressive and when zoomed out, there's still a sense of being zoomed in a bit too close.

- Nevertheless, the graphics ARE overall impressive, with vibrant colors, gorgeous laser blasts and explosions, and well-designed units that are very easy to identify from one another.

- The special abilities (unit drops, etc.) are a bit of a letdown because they - unlike previous C&C games - require money to use. (Example: The ion cannon now requires $1,500 to fire)

* This system will likely prevent surprise comebacks because someone low on cash won't be able to afford these abilities; but this may be a part of the game's "fast, furious, and over quickly" philosophy.

- Overall: EA has finally nailed it; this is a worthy sequel to C&C.

SCREENSHOT CAPTIONS (info obtained from,)

- One GDI mission (will likely) involves escorting a nuclear warhead amidst Scrin attacks

- Scrin infantry can walk over Tiberium fields without being damaged

- Nod Flame Tanks are good for taking out infantry - especially rocket troops - before they can take out other important armored vehicles, etc.

- (GDI) Mammoth tanks are very powerful; even Nod Avatar war mechs have to team up in order to successfully take one down.

- In the early missions, GDI and Nod forces battle it out in Washington D.C. amidst popular landmarks such as the Pentagon and White House

FACTION MINI-SECTIONS

GDI

- Specializes in brute force with heavy tanks that other factions can't really match (Mammoth tank for example)

* These tanks are made even more powerful when upgraded with rail guns

- GDI infantry can garrison bunkers, snipers can pick off enemy troops, and zone troopers can jump-jet their way over obstacles and easily take out light vehicles

- GDI only has two air units, but the Firehawk fighter/bomber can be equipped with air-to-air or air-to-ground weapons, allowing it to be a very versatile air unit overall

Nod

- Units are mostly lightly armored

- Stealth Tank and Flame Tank are two notable units making a return from previous C&C titles; are built for ambushing slow armor (stealth tank) and roasting infantry (flame tank)

- Shadow trooper is essentially a "Commando Lite"; can sneak into an enemy base and plant charges on buildings

- Nod Fanatics are wired with suicide bombs

- Nod Bombers use cloaking devices, can be used for easily taking out harvesters.

- Nod Harvesters can be free from similar harassment (above) because they use cloaking devices of their own!

Scrin

- Mostly insect-like units

- Buzzers and Shock Troops are ideal for close combat

- Their main strength is mostly in the air

* Devastator artillery battleship can sit out of range and attack units and base structures

* Planetary Assault Carrier launches (a swarm of) fighters that go after enemy air defenses

* Mothership - the largest unit in the game - is very, very powerful

- Harvesters are vulnerable to early-game attacks; are slow to move and unload.

* Building multiple harvesters is a good idea due to this

- It's best to tech up quickly due to early-game weakness

- Annihilators, Devastators, and PAC's are more effective when enhanced with the "shield" upgrade.

"RTS as a Sport" COLUMN

- Similar multiplayer to previous C&C games

* Up to 8 players

* Free-for-all mode

* Team games

* Minor modifiers: Starting cash, random "bonus boxes" (crates) spawning on the map

- Innovation comes in the form of broadcasting multiplayer matches

* Matches can be viewed in real-time or with an anti-cheat delay

* Those without the game can download a free client to watch matches at no cost

- More than one commentator can join matches (Team commentators may rise, perhaps, as seen on sports shows?)

* Commentators can use the "telestrator" tool in order to paint/point out important points on the map

* At the end of each match, observers can actually "rank" the commentator; this will allow commentators to gain a good (or bad) reputation to aid with their popularity

* Commentary is an excellent way to help watch matches, learn the game, etc.

- All broadcast matches will be stored on an EA server - voice commentary and telestrator marks included.

- C&C 3's web interface will allow scheduling of matches up to days and even weeks in advance

* Tournaments can also be managed

* Developer and player blogs will be viewable

- The website, overall, works almost more like an application than a web page; it's well done

- IMPORTANT QUOTE: "Props to EA for creating the best multiplayer interface to date."
