"VolkodaV" (Wolf-Hound) - Russian Fantasy Film

I would like to know from the norgesmenn - do you know something about this movie, did you see this picture?

It`s calling "Volkodav" or how I write this - "VolkodavЪ". :)

In russian writing - "Волкодав" - which means "The Wolfhound"

This is fantasy genre. And someone says it`s Slavyan Fantasy, but actually I don`t see in this film a lot things which can be put in sense of this genre`s style.

Yes, there are some images and situations which could be named "slavyan" - but generally it`s more nordical general culture which could be as slavyan as baltical as germanic.

Some images and scenes are even more norwegean than slavyan - for examples - the woods or faces of some heroes! :)

This is the most expensive film of modern russian cinematograph.

The cost of film is about 10 mln $.

The film has been very long time in production! Almost 2 years.

It`s very longwaited cinema-premier!

So I would like to hear some comments from people who have seen or would like to see this film.

Some pictures from this film -

(in a couple days I will put more pictures)

The title you have now is okay. Does this movie resemble other Russian fantasy movies like Night Watch and Day Watch?

NO! "Volkodav" absolutely has NOT any relate to these freak-films as "Night and Day Watch!"

In russian they are named - "Nochnoy Dozor" & "Dnyevnoy Dozor"

but almost normal people saying "Nochnoy or Dnyevnoy - Pozor!"

:D

"Pozor" means - Skam, Vanære in norsk. :D

If you have seen this "Pozor" you must agree with this!

IMDb-page of Wolfhound.

It doesn't seem too popular with the IMDb-crowd, and the releases seem to be limited to Russia, Latvia, Estonia and Bulgaria, and these were all recently released, so the DVD might be a bit far away.

Possible that situation there is - I don`t know for sure.

But for me this will be very strange - if the crew of this film will not spread theirs product wider than the states which you did write...

I already know that I, LarsP and Glint will purchase this DVD, and maybe you can autograph it, RostislaV?

What you mean about autograph? I don`t get it ... :)

Thanks for keeping us posted on the Russian film scene, Rostislav. I don't think "Volkodav" is quite my cup of tea but what other recent Russian movies would you recommend?

Btw, nice homepage you've got. Just one thing though - when will you put up some of your videos there? :)

Well ... if you so interesting in russian releases - I must take a look what is maybe interesting ...

for now for memory -

well - "Zhara" (Heat) - very interesting was for me - this is comedy with non-standard screenplay...

Or not the new one - but good - "Ohota Na Piran`yu" (Hunt For Pirahna) - it`s action.

There were shooting 2 powerful actors-stars -

Yevgeniy Mironov & Vladimir Mashkov!

Damn - if You knew how fantastical plays Mashkov!

Everybody crazy about him ... such fantastical charming and powerful actor!:)

Vladimir Mashkov On IMDB.com

Mashkov even had shooting in HollyWood ...

well ... did you see the serial "Idiot" ?

TV-adoption of Dostoyevskiy novel "Idiot".

That`s something ... this is the hi-end top of actor`s mastership!

To play better than in this picture following of the famous russian classical literature is simply impossible ...
