Det er bare å stryke vekk alle Spielberg-filmene fra den listen. Han sitter selv på rettighetene til alle filmene sine og nekter både Universal og Paramount å gi ut filmene sine på HD-DVD.

Ingen nyhet? Fox har stått i månedsvis uten et pip om å slippe nye titler på Blu-Ray. BD-fans har grått og HD-DVD-fans har ledd. Ryktene har flydd frem og tilbake på nettet med hint fra Hollywoddinsidere, og folk har bladd frem den ene konspirasjonsteorien etter den andre. Men nå er Fox offisiellt tilbake! Takk gud for det!

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment (TCFHE) today unveiled an

aggressive global Blu-ray Disc release strategy including 29 new release and

"must-have" catalog titles that runs through the end of the 2007 calendar year.

Among the many highlights of the impressive worldwide slate are six day & date

BD/DVD new theatrical releases from Fox including the $241 million box-office

family favorite FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER and the $335 million

box-office action powerhouse LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD, four day & date BD/DVD (U.S.

only) new theatrical releases from MGM, 19 'must-have on BD' films from the two

studios' libraries, Fox's first-ever TV release on BD - PRISON BREAK -- and

Fox's intention to release at least one state-of-the-art title per month

featuring numerous BD 'firsts.'

 

The only high-definition packaged media universally supported by the film,

music, gaming and computer industries, BD is the #1 selling high-definition

packaged media. In fact, on a worldwide basis, BD is averaging nearly 70%

market-share per week of all high definition titles sold this year and, in the

U.S., it is out-performing HD DVD by a margin of 115%.

"Given that Blu-ray has consistently outsold HD DVD all year, and this is

the case for any titles released by any studio in both formats, we believe that

the time is right for us to accelerate our activities and help convert the

nearly 60 million high definition households worldwide into Blu-ray households,"

noted Mike Dunn, President Worldwide, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

"By the end of this calendar year there will be expansive availability of

technically vibrant releases featuring never-before-seen, advanced BD-J

interactivity as well as a broad offering of playback devices at attractive

prices that will prove to any doubting consumers once and for all that Blu-ray

is the only way."

fittest which is most apparent in the retail landscape where our eager and

growing global Blu-ray consumer base has caused a shift that is forcing the

allocation of more space to the format that is selling the best. And, in many

recent instances of note, top retailers in North America are choosing to promote

the Blu-ray format exclusively in their stores," continued Dunn.

Among the BD industry 'firsts' from the Studios' upcoming global release

slate are picture in picture capability, enhanced viewing and surround sound

modes with the ability to mix and match picture and sound, direct access to

in-movie features through one of the four colored buttons on the BD remote and

the most technically vibrant BD-Java interactive multi-player challenge and

trivia games to date. The Studios' slate also takes full advantage of BD-Live

functionality this fourth quarter. Internet-connected consumers will enjoy

unique, title specific "web-enabled" interactive features and games and

"web-exclusive" downloadable content with the ability to connect and interact

with other broadband BD users worldwide.

 

Cementing its leadership position within the industry - previous BD

releases NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM and X-MEN THE LAST STAND rank in the Top 20

best-sellers - the vast majority of the Studios' upcoming global slate will be

presented on 50 GB dual-layer discs with advanced BD-J interactivity and feature

numerous Blu-ray exclusive high-definition bonus materials that further realizes

BD's incredible potential. Consumers will enjoy the superior video and audio

elements of AVC encoding and Lossless HD audio on many of the coming titles as

well as enhanced and integrated menus, personal scene selections, search

Det er bare å stryke vekk alle Spielberg-filmene fra den listen. Han sitter selv på rettighetene til alle filmene sine og nekter både Universal og Paramount å gi ut filmene sine på HD-DVD.

Vel det ordet som jeg har uthevet og merket i rødt vil vel jeg si at er det viktigste ordet i hele pressemelingen for å si det sånn. Så selv om Close Encounter har blitt sluppet på Blu-ray nå så vil den helt sikkert dukke opp på HD DVD etter hvert også, Spielberg er såpass oppegående at han har skjønt at han tjener mer penger hvis filmene hans kommer på begge formater...

 

Så for å komme litt on topic igjen. Fikk The Jerk og Pulse fra DVDP for rundt $20 per stk...

Neida, Close Encounters kan ikke ende opp på HD-DVD. Saken er at Universal og Paramount har distribueringskontrakt med nesten samtlige Spielberg-filmer. Desverre har Spielberg rettighetene til alle filmene sine, og kan derfor nekte dem å slippe filmene på HD-DVD. Derimot har Sony distribueringskontrakt med Spielberg for Close Encounters, og den lot han dem tilfeldigvis slippe på Blu-Ray. :)

 

Ergo, Close Encounters kan ikke slippes på HD-DVD, ei heller kan de andre Universal og Paramount-distribuerte Spielberg filmene slippes på Blu-Ray før Blu-Ray har vunnet og alle gir ut på Blu-Ray.

Hvis jeg ikke tar veldig feil har han siste ord om enhver utgivelse av filmer produsert (helt eller delvis) gjennom hans selskap Amblin. Sånn i farta tror jeg Close Encounters er den siste av hans "egne", personlige filmer som ikke har blitt (del)produsert gjennom Amblin, og han har så vidt jeg vet heller ingen vetorett når det gjelder utgivelse av den (annet enn at de færreste produsenter/studioer ville finne på å legge seg ut med en så viktig person med mindre det stod virkelig mye på spill).

Det er i tillegg mulig han har kjøpt/forhandlet fram rettigheter for filmer der Amblin aldri har vært med i bildet (det er jo noe en del suksess-rike regissører har gjort; Stille utvidede rettigheter også for tidligere filmer for samme selskap som betingelse for å lage nye filmer).

Og Close Encounters eies så vidt jeg vet av Columbia/Sony i alle markeder, og forblir nok derfor eksklusivt Blu-ray (personlig kan jeg ikke noe med hverken den eller E.T.).

Var dette jeg kom på i når jeg sto i dusjen også at det ikke var Paramount/Universal produsjon...

Nå satt Spielberg lenge på gjerdet før noen av filmene han ble sluppet på DVD også, så hvis du kan forklare meg hvorfor Spielberg ikke skal gi ut noen av sine filmer på HD DVD. Så hvis jeg leser det du skriver riktig, så mener du at Spielberg ikke vil gi ut filmer på HD får Blu-ray "vinner" krigen?

Du mistorstod meg litt her. Jeg mente at dersom Blu-Ray vant, og Universal og Paramount også ga ut filmer på Blu-Ray, ville Spielberg-filmene slippes på Blu-Ray. Formulerte meg litt dårlig der tror jeg. ;)

Du har nok rett. Tror jeg har sviktet litt på kildekritikken her. Leste dette på Ain't It Cool nettopp:

 

"(...)I then asked when the INDIANA JONES set would hit and if it would be exclusive to HD. Rob responded that on the films that Steven directs, he wants the titles to be available in both formats - so those will be cross-platform titles (...)" Les mer.

Det er gode nyheter at det kommer flere ekslusive HD DVD titler. En stund nå har innkjøpene mine av HD DVD & Blu-Ray tippet ganske bra i favør av Blu-Ray, og jeg begynte å lure på om de 6k på Toshiba spiller var penger ut av vindu. Men nå tenker jeg det blir endel flere HD DVD kjøp framover allikevel, og investering i begge format ikke var så dum allikevel, det er så såpass mange ekslusive titler i hver leir som jeg vil ha, at det snart veier opp.
