Hadde jo vært flott om Nintendo fikk fingeren ut av nesen og begynte å produsere flere spill til oss "hardcore gamere". Men det forblir vel en drøm, har en følelse av at Wii vil fortsette å selge bra.

Jeg tviler sterkt på at glanstiden er over. Nintendo har mange ess i ermet(som Microsoft og Sony har brukt tidligere) som f. eks priskutt, nye farger og nye modeller.

 

Personlig så har jeg troen på at salget i Japan vil ta seg opp. Det kommer en drøss med RPG'er som f. eks Monster Hunter G, MH3, Arc Rise Fantasia, Tales of "Ten", Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers og Little King's Story. WiiSports Resort vil trolig bli årets storselger, og Kirby er en svært populær serie i Japan. Og ikke glem at Dragon Quest X har blitt annonsert til Wii. Det er verdt å nevne det selv om spillet sannsynligvis ikke kommer ut før i 2010.

Den ukomplette releaselisten til Nintendo viser at Japan får 19 spill i 09. Europa får 8 og USA får 5. Den er ukomplett, men man ser helt klart at Nintendo satser hardt i Japan.

 

Jeg er rimelig sikker på at Wii vil selge godt i Europa og USA i en god tid fremover. Wii Fit og Mario Kart Wii vil nok ikke forsvinne fra salgslistene med det første. Wii Sports Resort og Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics vil utvilsomt bli bestselgere.

Jeg er mest spent på hvordan Wii-eierene vil ta imot bølgen av voldelige spill på vei til konsollen(Dead Rising, HOTD, The Conduit, MadWorld, Tenchu 4, Fatal Frame 4, No More Heroes 2), og hvordan selskapene planlegger å reklamere for dem. Det blir også spennende å se hvor de gjenopplivede seriene, Sin & Punishment og Punch-out, havner på salgslistene.

 

Jeg vil også legge til at Wii ikke er den eneste hjemmekonsollen som opplevde nedgang i salget i Japan fra 07 til 08.

Hva med Sin & Punishment 2, Another Code R, Pikmin 3, Zelda Wii, Kirby Wii og Punch-out Wii? Og så skal de utgi mindre kjente spill som Dynamic Slash, Spawn Masher, Tact of Magic og Line Attack Heroes. I tillegg kommer new play control-serien med Pikmin 1 og 2, Metroid Prime 1 og 2 og DK Jungle Beat. Dessuten er det også en del utviklere som ikke har annonsert sine neste prosjekt(Monster Games, Retro Games, Monolithsoft). Nintendo har en strålende lineup, men jeg er enig i at de kunne ha fått ut spillene raskere.

Tror ikke vi skal legge så mye vekt på tallene for tiden med tanke på hvor mye de spriker.

Nintendo claims 52% of video game revenue in January 2009

 

According to the latest sales figures, video game console hardware sales fell significantly in January compared to December. Although all consoles saw a decline, Nintendo continued to lead the industry by outselling all of their competitors with the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS.

 

The Nintendo Wii led the way with 679,200 units sold. The Nintendo DS was second with 510,800 units sold and the Xbox 360 was third with 309,000 units sold. Sony’s PlayStation 3 failed to make the top three with 203,200 units sold. Sony’s other hardware products placed fifth and sixth respectively with the PlayStation Portable selling 172,300 units and the PlayStation 2 selling 101,200 units

 

Complimenting Nintendo’s hardware sales success, first party Nintendo games topped the software sales charts as well. First place went to the Nintendo Wii Fit with 777,000 units sold. Wii Play placed second with 415,000 units sold and Mario Kart Wii was third with 292,000 units sold.

 

Gamasutra’s Matt Matthews thoroughly analyzed the January numbers declaring Nintendo platforms made up 52% of all industry sales which is up from 33% when compared to the same time last year. He stated Sony platforms appear to be languishing or declining while the Xbox360 continues to sell well.

 

Compared to January 2008, there are no longer 3 three robust competitors with a comparable piece of the video game market with Nintendo outselling both Microsoft and Sony combined.

 

For Sony, Matthews' analysis indicates there are troubling times ahead due to declining sales of all of Sony’s hardware offerings. The PlayStation 3 was down 25% year-on-year in January 2009 down from 67,000 systems sold per week to 51,000 systems sold per week. The PlayStation 2 and the PlayStation Portable also saw declining sales rates of 62% and 25%, respectively.

Nintendo trenger vel ikke gjøre annet enn å lansere en ny farge og justere ned prisen noen få hakk for at Wiien skal begynne å printe penger igjen i Japan. Har en følelse av at det er akkurat det de kommer til å gjøre også.
