Wow. How come I have not seen this place until now? Seems nice to have a place where you can write in English in this forum. I have not written anything in English for a long time, so I would not mind if anyone pointed it out if I make any obvious mistakes

 

Edit: I guess I wrote a little bit to fast. Ended up with correcting a couple of mistakes I noticed myself

Why not just spite everyone and write in english all over the forum?

I would, were it not for the fact that my mind tends to work better in norwegian

I think I will keep to writing Norwegian in the rest of the forum. It takes to much thinking to write something in English. Especially if I have something serious to say.

But I will try to remember this place and drop by from time to time. And maybe my English will be a little better after some time.

I have just bought all the Harry Potter-books in English so I hope that reading them will help to expand my vocabulary. I think my grammar and spelling are okay in most situations, but I often find myself in lack of words

The Harry Potter books are a fairly good start, as the books "grow" with age as the characters do. The language in the first books is fairly easy and straight forward, while the last books are more proper... books.

I have read the three first books in English several years ago, and I did not have any problems with them then. I do not think that it will be any problems in reading the other books either, but it is a good start when it comes to starting to read in English again. I have not had English in school for the last three years, so I need a soft start

I f'ing hated the first Narnia book (the first written, not the chronological first), because the language was as though it was written for retarded toddlers.

I actually have not read the Narnia-books in English, but I am reading them in Norwegian at the moment. I for one liked the language how it was in the first book, but it may be that it is a little bit different before translation. But I think i prefer the last book.

I also read the Narnia-books in Norwegian. I disliked them, not only because they were written in Norwegian, but because of the overwhelming religious indoctrination present in the books. I found it quite... unappealing.

I have never read even Harry Potter or Narnia. I really like Narnia, but I'm not so fond off Potter. The movies at least that is.

The Harry Potter movies are nothing compared to the books. Look at the Lord of the Rings movies. The movies are quite grand, spectacular and highly praised, but does it fall short of the books? Many people think so.

When it comes to the Harry Potter-books I think I have a special relationship with them because I got the first book when I was ten, and then the books kept coming out when the characters in the book always was the same age as me. When it comes to the language in the books there is a huge difference from the first to the last. It is quite interesting to see how much J. K. Rowlings writing improved from the start to the end of the series.

 

And just a little thing more. The books are waaaay better than the movies. At least thats my opinion I also think that goes for LotR. The book is much better than the movies. Especially in English

I have never read the Lord of the Rings books. I love the moovies and I'll bet I will love the books too. A must read it is.

Well personally I quite dislike the Lord of the Rings-books, simply because they're so slow and tedious. But that's just my opinion, and the books are still great works of art.

I will agree that the books can be a little slow in parts, but I find great delight in all the small details you can find in also those parts of the books, so that might be the reason why I have read them four times (twice in Norwegian, once in new-Norwegian, and once in English)

I'm more of a sucker for the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I've finished it four times in total, two of which was in the space of two weeks.

The complete series or just the one book named "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"? I have read that one book once in Norwegian, and it was quite a laugh. I really belive that it must be even more fun to read in English

The complete series with all the other books. I stumbled upon a black-bound hardcover with gold-edged pages at a store in Oslo, for just 149,-. I bought it, and never looked back. The quality of the book is akin to the Bible, yet so cheap!

Wow. That sounds amazing! I love having nice versions of books if I am to buy them. Thats why I bought a hardback box set of the Harry Potter books. I found a great offer on Amazon. I payed about 650 NOK for all the books including shipping and everything
