Bonna86 Skrevet 8. november 2008 Del Skrevet 8. november 2008 (endret) I'm going to York tomorrow! It will be fun, though I'll miss my fiancé, and of course my family, especially since it's my birthday tomorrow. Anyway, will be attending lectures for a two weeks time at York University, which will be very interesting I think. Endret 8. november 2008 av yvonne2 Lenke til kommentar

FKL982 Skrevet 8. november 2008 Del Skrevet 8. november 2008 (endret) And you're attending College in the age of 19? Yes, the typical college student is 18-19 years old when he or she is attending college. Some choose not to, and gets a low pay job instead, and some choose to join the U.S. Army. Oh, and some cannot afford, since it is an expencive matter, I belive the average cost of colleges are 20,000 $ a year. Endret 8. november 2008 av BallsMcLongCock Lenke til kommentar
Grishiamos Skrevet 9. november 2008 Del Skrevet 9. november 2008 Heh, I'm pretty sure that WoW ( and other videogames aswell ) has helped me to develope better English skills. I belive the english learned and practised in videogames and such like wow, cs or whatever can be good for educating ones speed and quick understanding of words, but alot of the words you see written is often wrongly spelled, and sentences is wrongly built. Many lack fundamental grammar skills. While this doesn't really matter when communicating with other friends on msn or players in games, it does matter when turning in an english school paper, or writing a letter to the King. The question should be; what kind of written english do you prefer to learn? Lenke til kommentar

FKL982 Skrevet 9. november 2008 Del Skrevet 9. november 2008 Quite often i am glad But, in exchange for free school all the way up to university, we pay a lot more in tax than the americans. Still, I belive our system is better than theirs. Lenke til kommentar
Mountain Skrevet 10. november 2008 Del Skrevet 10. november 2008 I agree. And I've heard that you have to pay for medical and hospital visits too. Even if you've been in an accident. But in exchange, the doctors in USA are often more talented compared to Norwegian. Correct? Lenke til kommentar
Vikingspeider Skrevet 13. november 2008 Del Skrevet 13. november 2008 I'm visiting some relatives after WJF5, and the father of the house is a neurologist. I'll see if I can get some first hand information - although he probably doesn't know too much about Norwegian doctors I heard that hypnotherapists in the US only need a 3 day education, or something like that. Scary. Lenke til kommentar
Bonna86 Skrevet 15. november 2008 Del Skrevet 15. november 2008 (endret) York in England? No wonder why you like to write here. What are you doing and how are you doing? Well, only been here a week now, I usually study back home in Norway. This is my fourth year as a teacher's trainee student. In this last year of my studies, I've chosen to concentrate on English, taking the year course as it were. Love it, thinking of going further with my studies of course, taking a master's degree later on (in English that is), after studying Languages and Culture at (with English in focus) the university of Agder. Relax at home, go to Spain?Im gonna celebrate home with my parents and grandparents, and then eat with my grandparents the 26th december Last time I was in Spain for christmas the power went down when the turkey was half way done. And we ended up driving through the town finding this small street kitchen which still had electricity, to then order the only thing they had: fish and chips. The day after we gave the half finished turkey to the neighbor dog. This was when we were on holiday in our flat in Estepona. Lenke til kommentar

Relax at home, go to Spain?Im gonna celebrate home with my parents and grandparents, and then eat with my grandparents the 26th december My plan is to spend the days before Christmas at WJF5 in Las Vegas, something I am quite thrilled about. Then, when the convention ends on the 23rd, I will go to Chippewa Valley in Wisconsin to be with some relatives I have there. I didn't want to potentially spend the 24th on an airport in Frankfurt, so I decided to celebrate Christmas in America. After this, I'll go to South Carolina to hang with my friend John Nations for a few days, and see some of his friends. We're also looking into driving to Atlanta to see Kooza, which would be just incredibly awesome if we did. This will be my first Christmas away from my family, and my first Christmas in a different country... and time zone... and on a different continent. The list over what this "will be" could go on and on for a little while I suppose, but I'll stop there. Endret 17. november 2008 av SondreOverby Lenke til kommentar

While this doesn't really matter when communicating with other friends on msn or players in games, it does matter when turning in an english school paper, or writing a letter to the King. The question should be; what kind of written english do you prefer to learn? Well that depends on the receiver really. I see what you're talking about, and I agree to a certain degree, though in games like WoW you can't miss the fact that the quest-texts are written in "proper" English and that there are many english "lads and gals" there who shuns the outrageous "nerd english". It's no use trying to hide the fact that there are gamers worldwide using words like "tho" and similar expressions. But then again you can clearly see that with the globalisation growing, so does the understanding of english as an language for "foreigners". I was the 2nd best english student in my class (only the native-American was better than me curse her soul, plus the average was pretty rubbish so..), but it would be wrong of me to give all the credit to the teachers and the school, 'cause there's no doubt whatsoever that I've taught more from movies, videogames and chatting with englishmen and americans, than I've been taught at school. So again, I do agree with you to a certain point, but I also believe that in the past 5-10 years, videogames and movies have had a great impact when it comes to understanding general english for the average norwegian. Bear^ Skrevet 7. desember 2008 Del Skrevet 7. desember 2008 Hm, interesting thread. I have a question that I might perhaps get an answer to here. I have decided that I want to work with writing, in some way or the other, but my english aint the best out there, so what do I do? I have to learn. I prefer to write in english, not sure why, may be because I read more or less everything in english (King, Eddings, Tolkien, Rowling, Deaver etc etc). So does anyone have any good resources for learning english grammar? I really need to learn up on that part. Lenke til kommentar
