EDIT: xm8, du må snart begynne å putte all infoen inn i spoiler-tags!

Javel, javel...

Community representatives handed over the petition against intrusive copy protection to JoWooD at the Games Convention in Leipzig. The publishers once again made clear that Gothic 3 will not use Starforce. A short time earlier it was confirmed their choice is SecuROM.

The petition against undue copy protection techniques used with Gothic 3, an idea born within the German section of WorldofGothic some months ago and hosted and administered by the diligent folks at Mondgesaenge.de, collected some 7,242 subscriptions - was finally delivered to representatives of JoWooD Productions and Deep Silver, the publishers for Gothic 3 in Europe, at the current Leipzig Games Convention this Saturday.

WorldofGothic.de offers a video made at the occasion where Kai Rosenkranz, public liaison officer with Piranha Bytes, admits of having signed the petition himself. He calls the copy protection solution found for Gothic 3 a win/win-situation for all parties involved.

The dreaded StarForce programme has been abandoned by the publishers Deep Silver and JoWooD, which was one of the primary concerns of the many Gothic fans who participated in this movement. Gothic 3 now will be shipped with the newest version of SecuRom - a copy protection programme that was already used for Gothic 2. Whether this solution will prove beneficial to the buyers of Gothic 3 remains to be seen.

There's a pretty cool revelation in that PC Games video interview with the JoWood Producer.

He says that your endurance will regen a lot slower in the desert due to the heat. This can be avoided by getting an appropriate desert outfit though and if you befriend the nomads then you should be able to get equipment that will help you to lead a more comfortable life in the desert.

He also revealed that it will be hard to escape combat in the Northern areas (Nordmarr) due to the narrow mountain passages. It will be possible to kick enemies off ledges though.

Then at the very end he said...

that the story will not be concluded and that a sequel would be a possibility just from a story-wise point of view.

The Beginning of Gothic III

- No, you won't get into a shipwreck on the way from Khorinis to Myrtana.

- You and the four friends (Gorn, Diego, Lester, Milten) arrive at the port of Ardea (full map of the Gothic III world can be found right here at WoG).

- The four friends will all head off in different directions to pursue their own goals.

- You will not be a total weakling. You should be able to defeat a regular orc, for example.

Character Development

- There will be 9 attributes: 1. Strength 2. Hunting Skill 3. Ancient Knowledge (relates to magic and the learning of spells from scrolls and stone tablets) 4. Smithing/Forging 5. Thievery 6. Alchemy 7. Life 8. Stamina 9. Mana.

- It looks like there will be combat perks (17 or 18.), hunting perks (11 or 12), magic perks (11 or 12), smithing perks (5 or 6), thieving perks (11 or 12), alchemy perks (9 or 12) and misc/other perks (6).

I'm writing 'x number or x number' because it doesn't quite become clear from that one screenie whether all perks are unlocked or displayed in the trees. I *think* the 1st number should be more accurate because it adds up to exactly 70 perks, a number that was mentioned a few times before).

Please note that these are just the perks, not the spells (in case of the magic stuff). There are supposed to be approximately 40 spells in the game.

- There will be the following types of protection: 1. Vs. Blades 2. Vs. Smashing 3. Vs. Missiles 4. Vs. Fire 5. Vs. Ice/Cold 6. Vs. Energy.

- You will as usual get LP (learning points) on a level-up which you can then use to raise your attributes and to acquire perks. Perks are rumored to require 5 LP flat. Attributes 1 LP per point.

- Some perks also require gold and/or that you do quests for a certain person or faction. Example: The dual wielding can only be learned from the Assassins in the desert of Varant.

- The max level is estimated to be around 30. There is no hard level cap but you're supposed to run out of stuff to kill at around level 30.

Geography, World & People

- Check this link to a full world map at WoG.

- The world has three distinct zones... 1) Nordmar (mountains/ice/glaciers) 2) Myrtana (the main land that is similar to Khorinis) 3) Varant (the desert zone).

- You will spend approximately 60% of the time in Myrtana and 20% in Varant and Nordmar each.

- Myrtana is occupied by the orcs. You'll mostly be able to find thief skill trainers here.

- Nordmar will be the home of the Barbarians (hunters who are organized in clans, namely Wolf, Hammer and Fire clan) where you will be able to find trainers for hunting skills and ranged weapons.

- Varant will be the home of the Assassins who are allies of the orcs (they are hunting for slaves to sell to the orcs). Dual wielding is the specialty of the Assassins so if you want to acquire the perk you need to look in the desert.

- The world will be about 5x as large as Gothic II + NotR combined but also about 20% smaller than Oblivion's world. The playable area is estimated to be approximately 19 square kilometers.

- There'll be about 20 cities or villages.

- The main city (Vengard) is supposed to be a little larger than Khorinis. All other cities and villages are supposed to be (considerably) smaller.

- There'll be no loading screens at all. You can go from Nordmar to Varant and back and to some dungeons in between. No loading. Ever.

- You will have to find a map of the world on your travels.

- Travel... you can right-click to sprint but there will also be teleportation runes and static teleporters. No mounts.

Combat & Magic

- Melee combat can now be fully controlled with the mouse.

- The game differentiates between a short left mouse click (quick stabbing attack), a normal left mouse click (default attack) and a long left mouse click (power attack).

- The attack moves can be combined with the right mouse button (which is usually used for parrying/blocking) for special attacks and finishing moves.

- Pressing 'jump' and clicking the left mouse button initiates a special jump attack (can only be performed after you have acquired the associated perk).

- There'll be a new weapon type (polearms).

- Druids can shape-shift to turn into animals and monsters.

- There'll be 40 spells including some new ones like the bullet-time effect slo-mo spell that will enclose your enemies in a slo-mo bubble so you can hit them easier with ranged weapons (basically a kind of snare attack).

- Magic will not be available from the beginning of the game. You will have to search for scrolls and ancient stone tablets that you then need to take to an altar where you need to pray to learn the spells.

- Actions require more stamina in Nordmar and Varant due to the heat or cold, respectively. You will be able to acquire armor (via quests) that will enable you to fight normally in those territories.

- You will be able to pick up NPCs for certain missions (probably very limited party control as in the previous Gothics and Oblivion). Trainers might join you on occasion to teach you stuff on your travels.

The Story (SPOILERS, OF COURSE!)

- The game begins where Gothic II ended. You arrive at the port of Ardea in Myrtana with your four friends from Khorinis (Milten, Lester, Gorn, Diego). This is where your ways will part. Your friends head off in different directions and you're left to find out what's going on in Myrtana.

- Myrtana is occupied by the orcs. It looks like you will have to liberate (at least) 7 cities of Myrtana during the course of the story if you decide to help the human rebellion.

- The Assassins in Varant are allies of the orcs and supply them with slaves.

- Xardas will be around as well... mystical as ever...

- There's supposed to be a secular aspect to the story (the occupation of Myrtana) and a spiritual aspect (the gods will play a role again as well).

- You can choose to side with either 1. The Humans (the rebels against the orcish invasion who are loyal to king Rhobar II) 2. The Orcs (the occupying force) 3. The Assassins (who are officially allied with the orcs but also play a shady role supposedly). The other factions (druids, the Nordmar clans etc) are like the guilds in Gothic II.

- The decision whether to side with the humans, the orcs or the assassins has to be made in the last third of the game (similar to Gothic I where the decision was also made pretty late in the game).

- There will be three different paths towards the ending for every faction though it seems like the ending will always be the same (just different paths towards the common goal). That's my latest understanding of it anyway. Maybe there are three "real" endings... dunno... the info is a bit controversial in those presentations and articles.

- The orcs in Myrtana are supposed to be very different from the orcs in Khorinis. The Myrtana orcs have a strict military hierarchy and are very intelligent, well educated and disciplined.

- The ending of Gothic III definitely allows for an expansion or a sequel.

Misc

- 550 quests (main quest = only 25 of those).

- 50 types of enemies.

- Main story = 50 hours - All missions = 100 hours play time.

- ~30 voice actors (PC Action previously claimed it was 62 actors but 30 is the number Kai from PB mentioned at GC) provide for 18 hours of spoken dialog (250K lines of dialog according to PC Action.. other sources were quoting 25K lines of dialog instead *shrug*... let's just say there's a hell of lot of babbling, k? ).

- 1000 distinct items - the goal was to go for quality over quantity (so they don't think 1000 is a lot, huh? ).

- The main complaint in all mags and videos etc was the performance of the game and crash bugs (e.g. crashes upon entering water). Kai Rosenkranz from PB responded to the concerns by saying that the GC demo build was not the latest build and that a more advanced, bug-free version of the game was already being worked on.

- The UI is much more polished now. You can switch through different item categories in your inventory and there is a quick slot bar where you can drag & drop frequently used spells, skills or weapons (like in MMORPGs

There is an interview of mickael êack but it is in french. here http://www.jeuxvideo.com/news/2006/00017779.htm

Interesting stuff he talks about: Right now the loading time when you first launch the game is 1minute30 but it will be 1minute the 13th. No loading time in the game except for when you teleport but there is an animation for that so you will not see any loading.

And very important he talks about levelling (maybe it was said in a german interview dunno) but he gives an example:

Minediggers have levels between 20 and 25. If nameless is under 20 the diggers will be 20, if he is higher the digger will have a better level with a maximum of 25. If you are higher he will be 25 of course.

There are some intersting stuff like the explanation of the system they use for no loading; you can see buildings many hundred meters away; to pass the first levels you need only click but progressivly you come to need tactics

Skjult tekst: (Marker innholdet i feltet for å se teksten):

Anbefalar forresten uansett at du blir citizen før du velger eit laug. Der er både XP og pengar å tene på det. :)
