[utfordring] Hjelp til Unreal TV - UTV - Linux

Anbefalte innlegg

Hei,

Jeg er med i en liten gruppe som driver og "feeder" matcher for Unreal Tournament [ http://unrealtv.org/ ] (ja det er fremdeles liv i det gamle spillet.. )

UTV is a mod for Unreal Tournament that allows many people to spectate a game without putting any additional load on the game server. The UTV Client allows you to watch and broadcast games. The UTV Server should be run on a machine with plenty of bandwidth to allow many clients to connect and watch.

Vi har i det senere støtt på endel problemer når det gjelder å kjøre dette på linuxservere, men har hatt store problemer med å finne noen som er kjent med Unreal Tournament og Linux. Jeg orker ikke oversette alt, så her er posten vår admin posta for en stund siden;

Need help with UTV [bugfixing]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello there

First of all I’d like to apologize for putting this here. I’m well aware of the fact that this is not really UT server related, but I didn’t find any better place for it.

Most of you I think know UTV. The problem with it is that it isn’t working on newer machines properly. When I first installed the UTVserver for Linux a few years ago it was working without any problems. Just compile it and it’s working. This I’m afraid is not the case anymore. After compiling from the source and editing the ini files, I start the server (what command you exactly use doesn’t really change anything to the fact that it’s not working). Now there are the following bugs:

- Viewer count is wrong (looks like it never decreases and it’s increasing while the server is running without any connections to it)

- After some time you can’t connect to the server as feeder anymore with the message “Feeder already connected” even if there’s not feeder on it at all. Sometimes this also occurs after the server has just been started.

- If you manage to start the server and join it as feeder, most of the viewers won’t be able to connect to the server. It’s quite random and I wasn’t really able to reproduce it properly. Sometimes the first few connections get trough, but then it freezes at “Waiting for level info” for the others.

- Sometimes when you start the server, it crashes right away without any message.

The reason why I’m putting this here is that I didn’t really get any support from the creators of UTV. So I asked around among my coding friends, but no one of them is familiar with UT stuff. So I’m basically looking for someone with knowledge both of UT and Linux. I personally was using a debian installation though it was brought to my attention that this happens on all the linux machines, no matter what OS they’re running.

I really hope somebody can help me with this one as I was running five server for #utv to feed cupgames (mostly CTF) and now we’re left with close to 0 servers because utv doesn’t work with linux anymore.

If you need to contact me, I can be found in #utv (quakenet, nick is W`). Maybe you have to wait some time till I get back to you, just leave a message on my BNC.

Thanks, W`
