Har en server som kjører Apache, MySQL og en Minecraftserver, og vil helst slippe å wipe hele serveren, men er usikker på stabilitet ved upgrade. Klarer meg i og for seg med Debian 5 og, men det er en del pakker som ikke er oppgradert i 5, så da slipper jeg å styre med kompilering av blant annet Python og endel andre ting. Fortsatt er kombinasjonen grub2 og btrfs en utfordring. Denne traff meg i dag:https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/732149 Heldigvis er suspend stabil på denne laptopen, så jeg får holde den gående uten reboot til problemet er løst. Er i Canada for øyeblikket uten noen recovery muligheter For å gjøre lage striping og speiling av fire disker, dvs. raid10: mkfs.btrfs -m raid10 -d raid10 /dev/sda /dev/sdb /dev/sdc /dev/sdd så kan du montere med hvilken som helst disk i raidet, eksempelvis: mount /dev/sda /home men som sagt, vent en stund til. F.eks. kan jeg kjøre zfs create tank/filer zfs set mountpoint=/hjemmeserver/filer tank/filer. Dette lager en ny "bit" av poole som heter filer, og denne kan så mountes hvor jeg vil. Samtidig kan jeg lage undermappen /tank/filer/Petter med "zfs create /tank/filer/Petter og sette en maksstørrelse på dette "filsystemet" til 100GB. Komprimering, quotas o.l. kan enkelt og greit settes på enkelte udermapper eller hele treet, med minimal innsats. Jeg er ikke ute etter å få kun ett enkelt mountpoint eller en device ut av diskpoolen, og jeg vil kunne konfigurere enkelt. Dvs., så lenge jeg ka ha ulike mountpoints, er jeg nok solgt, og hopper over. Men at det er såpass uferdig fortsatt, gjør meg litt usikker på om det i det hele tat kommer til å bli klart nok i år. Fikk muligheten til å prøve dette først idag. xinit ga flere feil meldinger om nvidia. FATAL: Module nvidia not found. (EE) NVIDIA: failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module. Please check your. (EE) NVIDIA: system's kernel log for additinoal error messages. (EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (module-spesific error.0) Fatal server error: no screens found. Det var mer i loggen men vet ikke helt om det var noe veldig viktig. Bumper denne litt da jeg har funnet ut litt av problemet. Det viser seg at skjermkortet som jeg har (gtx 560ti) ikke har offisiele linux drivere ute enda men bare beta og det kan kanskje fikses ved å installere beta driveren. Mens å kom jeg ikke på begrepet sub volumes, så det kan hende det var det som gjorde at letingen stoppet. Siden du tydeligvis har fulgt med en del på btrfs, når er det realistisk at btrfs er klart for vanlig hjemmeserverbruk (inkl. brtfschk)? Lenke til kommentar

En viktig milepæl blir når Chris Mason får ferdigstilt btrfsck, og det kan skje når som helst, eller det kan ta et par måneder. En annen viktig faktor er om du tenker å bruke det som rotfilsystem, for som nevnt er grub2 og btrfs en relativt umoden kombinasjon. Utover dette er mitt inntrykk at btrfs med 2.6.38 kjerne er moden nok for hjemmebruk for oss som gjerne vil være tidlig ute. Dvs. at vårens slipp av distribusjoner er interessant. Hvis man ønsker å være trygg kan man vente til høst-slippet. Det forundrer meg mye om btrfsck mangler full funksjonalitet da, da er sannsynligvis også raid5 på plass. Lenke til kommentar

Nå hadde jeg uansett ikke tenkt å oppgradere maskinvare før Bulldozer kommer, men jeg begynner å få litt lite lagringsplass, samtidg som stasjonærmaskinen har en eller annen mystisk hardwarefeil som fører til 10-15 sekunders heng innimellom i linux, og blåskjerm en sjelden gang i Windows, så det frister litt å ta hele hardwareoppgraderingen i en smell snart. Skulle gjerne hatt en HTPC der VIVO inn-signalet kommer i fullskjerm når PC-en har startet. Tenkte å kjøpe ny TV, men det eneste jeg trenger er DVD og tilkobling til CDC-tuner. Og det burde vell kunne gå med en gammel PC-skjerm og en linux-box? Sparer jo både miljø og penger, i tillegg til at jeg har en fullverdig HTPC.
