The damned thing runs hotter than a rice burner at a red light under the not-so-leadfoot of a virgin male whose dying to impress. It has little ventilation, and gets warm quick. Within hours, it gets warm/hot enough to cure back pain, were one to set it on one's back for relief...put it on a flat surface, and play it 20 hours a week, and within six months, you've got a doorstop. It is literally that hot... seriously. It's a nice unit, but it runs hot.

I have been hearing that Sony has made a big boo boo.  Rumor of course, but I heard that in the new Slim Ps2 over-heats very easly.  Actually I have heard that if you play it for 6 hours strait it just cuts off due to over-heating.  I guess that they forgot to put a cooling fan or something in there I'm not to sure.  If you have heard anything or no anything please mail me or post here, thanks.

My friend got one, luckily he had a warranty. He likes to play games...alot!

He has like overheated 3 slim PStwo's.

If you want good ventillation in it, you would need to cut it appart with a dremmel tool, but this voids the warranty

Does anyone know if they are going to fix the over heating problem in newer versions of the product?

Also, when a magasine was writing a review for san andreas, with the slim ps2, it started to smell like smoke! and it wrecked the console!

Although some units have overheating problems while others dont, a smaller size something will overheat or get warmer faster( ie laptop coputer vs desktop PC). This seems to be the only model that retailers carry, so if u are just getting into gaming, this is the only option. If you are considering an upgrade, stick with the old model, this redesign isnt worth it.
Um, I dont think you needed the fliptop along with the Swap Magic to play your imported game if it was original.

For the slim ps2s, even when you play normal local original games it becomes unusually hot ( a bit less than modchips i guess). There are many options to fix this, USB fan, just plug a fan into the wall and direct it towards ps2, keep ps2 away from heaters, just generally keep ps2 near a cold area. But yeah overheating is a problem in the new version.

Those of you with the new PStwos should take caution. Our test machine, a brand new PStwo purchased from the Valley View Mall in East St. Louis overheated after just 30 minutes of playing the game. The textures began to flicker and the frame rate dipped into the single digits before the game froze altogether. Everyone in the office smelled something strange before we realized the PStwo was overheating. It was too late. After rebooting the system the game simply wouldn't start. We tried the game on my modded PStwo and the game killed that system as well. We asked the cashier at EB Games if overheating was a widespread problem and he said that San Andreas pushes the PlayStation 2 well past it's limit and causes the smaller models to overheat. We bought another PStwo with a much needed warranty plan and we've had no problems since then.
