Wikipedia:

Korea was a Japanese colony from 1910 until the end of World War II in 1945. After liberation from Japanese rule, the peninsula was divided into North and South by the Soviet Union and the United States, and was occupied by them. The leading powers of the Cold War, the U.S. and the Soviet Union, divided Korea, which is of one nation, into two parts and established two governments, each one favorable to one of the two great powers. The Allies agreed that Japanese forces north of 38° north latitude (the 38th parallel) would surrender to the Soviet Union and those south of 38° would surrender to the USA. The Allies pledged that Korea would be a unified, independent country under an elected government but failed to specify the details.

The United Nations held an election in 1948, but the Soviet Union refused to allow participation in their occupied zone. Instead, they handed over power to the North Korean Communist Party under Kim Il-Sung, who had been in exile in Moscow. The south elected the nationalist exile Syngman Rhee.

The origins of the Korean War have long been a matter of debate. At the time, the American government believed that the communist bloc was a unified monolith, and that North Korea acted within this monolith as a pawn of the Soviet Union. In the 1960s and 1970s the view that the war was just as much caused by western and South Korean provocation became popular. Today, with the opening of Soviet archives, the war is most often blamed on Kim Il-sung who convinced a reluctant Joseph Stalin to support the venture.

Med andre ord, det var nesten akkurat som Tyskland, hvor det ble delt i to hvor USA hadde kontroll og innflytelse over den ene delen, og USSR hadde det over den andre delen.

CAIRO CONFERENCE

November, 1943

(Dept. of State Bulletin, Vol. IX, p. 393)

Released December 1, 1943

The several military missions have agreed upon future military operations against Japan. The Three Great Allies expressed their resolve to bring unrelenting pressure against their brutal enemies by sea, land, and air. This pressure is already mounting.

The Three Great Allies are fighting this war to restrain and punish the aggression of Japan. They covet no gain for themselves and have no thought of territorial expansion. It is their purpose that Japan shall be stripped of all the islands in the Pacific which she has seized or occupied since the beginning of the first World War in 1914, and that all the territories Japan has stolen form the Chinese, such as Manchuria, Formosa, and the Pescadores, shall be restored to the Republic of China. Japan will also be expelled from all other territories which she has taken by violence and greed. The aforesaid three great powers, mindful of the enslavement of the people of Korea, are determined that in due course Korea shall become free and independent.

With these objects in view the three Allies, in harmony with those of the United Nations at war with Japan, will continue to persevere in the serious and prolonged operations necessary to procure the unconditional surrender of Japan.

Men er en enda verre ting som gjenstår, finne ut vhor mye av BNP som går med på militærbudsjett!!

EDIT: fant dette :

The Korean People's Army is made up of 1.2 million troops, making it the fourth-largest military in the world. North Korea spends more than 30 per cent of its gross domestic product on its military. About 37,000 of those troops guard the demarcation line between the two Koreas.

men er ikke 30 cent per inbygger lite? Hvor mye bruker norge?

Nei? Som du selv presterer å quote er prosentandelen av BNP som går med til militæret 30 (30 per cent of gross domestic product == 30 prosent av brutto nasjonalprodukt).
