The bad: Heavy, bricklike design; controls spaced too far apart; bottom-loading cassette; complex interface.

 

The bottom line: The affordable TRV840 is Sony's top-of-the-line Digital8 camcorder, offering a plethora of features and digital video capture on inexpensive 8mm and Hi8 cassettes. But if you're in the market for a compact, smoothly designed camera, keep looking.
