Dear Mr. Barstad,

Thank you for contacting Logitech's Electronic Technical Support.

I understand from your email that you are having difficulties with the buttons of the MX700 Optical Mouse. I am sorry for the inconvenience caused.

I would like to inform you that many anomalies associated with cordless devices are usually caused by interference between the radio signal and the receiver. This can often be corrected by simply moving the receiver to a different location.

Any electrical device, such as the computer monitor, Zip drives, speakers, etc., can cause interference with Logitech cordless products. Most likely, this will affect tracking of pointing devices or the range of the device. Also, using Logitech cordless devices on a metal desk or a desk with a metal frame can cause problems with pointing device behavior and range. To resolve these types of issues, try moving the receiver at least 8 inches away from other electrical devices. Interference issues can also be resolved by moving the mouse or keyboard closer to the receiver. You may also want to experiment with different locations and positions for the receiver, including moving the receiver to an upright/vertical position or rotated to a different angle. Another alternate solution is to elevate the receiver by placing it on a CD ROM case or other item.

If the issue persists, please uninstall the MouseWare software and check whether the mouse is working properly on the PC. Logitech software is not required to achieve basic mouse functionality. Verify the receiver is properly connected and that the batteries are installed.

A. Steps to remove the MouseWare software:

a. Open the Windows Control Panel.
b. Open the Add / Remove Programs window.
c. Locate the listing for MouseWare and remove it.
d. Locate any other mouse software and remove it as well.

B. If the mouse is working properly, then install the latest version of MouseWare Software 9.791. You can download the latest version of MouseWare software from the following URL: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?page=downloads/software&CRID=1792&contentid=6033&countryid=18&languageid=1

C. Perform the “Clean Boot Procedures” located at the following URL:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310353

D. Install the Logitech software:
a. Double-Click the icon for the MouseWare download file.
b. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.

If the mouse is not working properly then please try it on another PC and check whether it working. If the issue persists then please contact the Point of Purchase and get the mouse replaced under warranty.

If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to write back to me.

If you have any additional questions regarding your product, please feel free to visit our website at http://www.logitech.com
