Mithras "Worlds beyond the veil" MP3: Psyrens (6,6MB) OMFG! Lords and masters (5MB) Beyond the eyes of man (6,3MB) Terrorizer magazine has given Worlds Beyond the Veil the most absurd review in history, referring to it as the best British album of all time. Well, it isn’t. It’s not even close. Having said that, however, it might be a small masterpiece provided you (a) appreciate the transcendental symphonies of time travel throughout the space continuum, (b) value polyrhythmic Death Metal a la MORBID ANGEL on hyperbolic steroids, and © need a regular fix of an epic sounding combination of both (a) + (b). With a recipe like that, MITHRAS could be on the verge of turning the tide, and with a tag-team partner like AKERCOCKE in the ring, slam dunk Britain back onto the extreme metal road map. This is epic, creative, atmospheric, and deep while retaining all the heaviness and brutality that you would expect from a genuine death metal band. This album is a refreshing and truly innovative work of art. The theme throughout is clearly cosmic, sc-fi/fantasy type issues and one can also observe a discreet concept moving through the album. Listening to this album is like drifting into the galaxies portrayed in the album art and the lyrics! It sounds childish perhaps, but that is the feeling I have often got when listening to it. Mithras explores the notion that infinite universe must have worlds and pantheon realities beyond that could be construed as a heaven and that one day man could evolve to the next level of spirituality and indeed into one of telepathy and one without the shell of ideals and taboos. While this complexity may turn off the casual metal observer, if they give the music a chance they’ll be surprised at its brutalness and insanely fast riff-shredding. At their core, Mithras sounds like they've been schooled by the best death metal bands on the planet. The Florida scene is the most obvious influence to my ears, but I hear a little of everything. From a death metal perspective, there is absolutely nothing to complain about here. The strangest thing is the production itself. It's atypical, but very good. While it's easy to hear everything that's going on, their actual sound exudes atmosphere at all times. The nearest comparison to me is that feel that older Emperor albums had. What may be the most shocking and challenging aspect of their music is their extensive use of atmospheric passages and dark ambient noise tracks. Unlike many metal bands, they don't just throw in a weak noise track as an intro or outro. In fact, some of the noise songs are longer than the death metal songs. This experimenting isn't just limited to a bunch of random ambient tracks haphazardly thrown in between the "real" music. Oh no. Expect brutal death metal songs that transition effortlessly into ethereal planes and back again. 'Portal To The...' is a six minute intro that is just basically atmospheric sounds from space and is kind of tripped out. It's a little much, but oh well. Holy shit! We now come in contact with the title track and drummer Leon Macey gives Hellhammer a run for his money. He is super tight, technical as sin and simply incredible. The opening guitar riffs are very reminiscent of old GORGUTS with the weird and technical as fuck time changes. There is nothing sloppy about any of the performances here. They will astound you long after the cd is over. This cd is exciting and at over an hour long, it doesn't feel like it as extreme as the music is. There is just so much going on that you are listening to hear what they did with each instrument. I have gone through this cd many times and catch something new each time. Yes, it's that addicting to listen to. You have to hear the sound effects used on the guitar. They are entrancing and can easily lure you in. Leon's guitar work is loaded with complex time changes, but he is limber enough to be ambidextrous with his finger work and he makes it sound like no big deal. The instrumental are crucial between the songs here as they not only are needed to break up the cacophony, but are a part of the bands concept music wise. Be prepared for total dominance, in the way you might have felt when first hearing the innovation behind DEATH or MORBID ANGEL. MITHRAS are the next logical step forward. An absolute worthy addition to your collection, and one of the best albums of 2003. Har bestillt cden ja.. Lenke til kommentar
