GeForce 5900XT problem.

Anbefalte innlegg

En fyr jeg kjenner fikk et problem med sitt nye GeForce 5900XT. Han er engelsk, og her en

So here's the deal. I used to have this crappy Radeon 9200. My friend had a GeForce 4600 that had a fan problem, so I paid to ship it back to the manufacturer under warranty. They returned a GeForce 5900 XT overclocked version. Cool. Cost me 9$, and seems to be a decent board.

I wiped out all of the ATI drivers via their program. I then installed the new board. It's well seated; I've pulled it out and replaced it and it doesn't go in any further. I installed the newest Nvidia driver with my virus scanner disabled. I would get frequent lockups (hangs for a couple of seconds on my display, but whatever was going on in the background continues) when windows would pop up on my desktop (download dialogs, etc.). In-game (except for DoD) it worked fine for the most part, but CoD wouldn't run for more than a couple of minutes.

The board has a power input on it, so I thought perhaps I was stretching my power supply too thin. Yesterday I installed an Antec True550 power supply. (Very nice, BTW. It's heavy, but quiet and obviously built with much more care than my crappy generic power supply). That resulted in no change whatsoever.

It's not a temperature thing. I've been watching the temp via independent sensors, and the readings match. The highest temperature I hit under the hardest load for a long period of time is 48 C. I've got 2 fans in the front bringing air in. I've got 2 fans in the back exhausting air, plus an additional fan now in the power supply to exhaust from the top. I have a fan that blows inward from the side directly onto the video card and CPU. There are also good fans on the CPU and video card.

Yesterday I tried putting in an older driver; 56.64. CoD now works beautifully. I thought I had fixed the lockup problem, but I just had a bout this morning. I'm at a complete loss.

I'm running XP Pro with all service packs and updates. I've reinstalled the last chipset driver available (from 2003). There is no BIOS update available. I've got all the latest drivers that I can think of.

I'm at a loss at this point. Any help you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated!
