ASUS has announced a new premium WiFi 6 router, the ROG Rapture GT-AX6000. It features dual 2.5 Gbps ports and combined speeds of up to 6,000 Mbps. It supports up to 4,804 Mbps on the 5 Ghz band and 1,148 Mbps on the 2.4 Ghz band. It is powered by a 2.0 GHz 64-bit quad-core Broadcom CPU paired with next-gen Broadcom WiFi 6 chipsets. One of the 2.5 Gbps ports can be configured for LAN or WAN for up to 3.5 Gbps of WAN bandwidth.

Asus GT-AX6000: First, yet likely the last, dual-band ROG Rapture Wi-Fi 6 router
In case you don’t know, ROG Rapture is a line of high-end gaming routers part of the Asus Republic of Gamers (ROG) hardware family, which includes other gaming gears — desktop, screens, laptops, mouse, keyboards, etc.

Generally, a ROG Rapture tends to be a tri-band router, such as the GT-AX11000, GT-AXE11000. The GT-AX6000 is the first Wi-Fi 6 Dual-band bearing this brand, and it’s also likely the last.

That’s because with the world moving to Wi-Fi 6E, chances are all Asus’s future high-end routers will use the new Tri-band or even Quad-band specs. The GT-AX11000 Pro and GT-AXE16000 ROG Rapture routers, both unveiled last week, are the most unambiguous indication of that fact.

So why the GT-AX6000? In my book, the GT-AX6000 seems to be the intended replacement of the RT-AX86U, which at the time of release, together with the RT-AX82U, was lauded as a gaming router. Asus now wants to consolidate its gaming router brands.

In any case, the two share many similarities, although you can say that almost all Asus routers — those that share the same core features.

Despite the higher specs on the 2.4GHz band, the GT-AX6000 will likely deliver the same Wi-Fi performance as the RT-AX86U.

The new router decidedly has on its older cousin are the extra gaming-related features and the additional 2.5Gbps LAN port. It’s among a shortlist of Wi-Fi 6 routers with two Multi-Gig ports.

The GT-AX6000 looks cool. It’s a rectangle box tapered into almost a trapezoid with four removable antennas at four corners. On top, it has the iconic Aura RGB light of the ROG family.

Painted in red and black, the new gaming router looks the part. And it seems to have all gaming features collectively available in Asus’s top-tier gaming routers.

That said, you can expect a familiar web user interface and mobile app from the GT-AX6000 and with them a host of networking settings and features.

It’s also a done deal that the new router fully supports Asus’s AiMesh 2.0, which turns it into a robust mesh router or satellite when coupled with other supported routers.

And finally, I’m most excited about the two 2.5Gbp ports. Among other things, they expand the current working options of AiMesh mesh systems with Multi-Gig wired backhaul.

Ok, så en bør vente på WiFi 6E med triband/quadband kanskje. Hadde denne routeren vært på markedet før jeg leste dette så kan det hende jeg hadde kjøpt. Litt usikker nå.
