Thanks to them, women have today more rights then they had before. But there are still many women who are under pressure. We hope that one day these women will also get to taste freedom. Now I am going to write about one brave women who fought 40 years for women´s liberation. Emmeline Pankhurst lived from July, 4th 1858 to June 14th 1928. Emmeline was involved in abolition of slavery and also as well as women´s suffrage. Emmeline Pankhurst went to local school in Manchester for many years in her hometown. But her parents believed in a strong education as well as a strong part in government and they sent Emmeline to a boarding school in Paris. Emmeline was vey well educated, but was interested in women´s rights. She attended meetings with her parents when she was young. As she found those meetings very interesting, and decided to get into political movements. In 1879, she married Richard Pankhurst, who was a lawyer and supporter of the women´s suffrage movement. In 1898 Richard passed away, and his death was a great shock to Emmeline. In 1889, Emmeline founded the women´s Franchise League, which fought to allow married women to vote in local elections. In October 1903, six women in Manchester, England decided to do something about the position of women in society. They founded the Women´s Social and Political Union, whose main purpose was to campaign for women´s suffrage. The period of militancy was ended abruptly on the outbreak in 1914, when Emmeline turned her energies to supporting the war effort. Emmeline died in 14 June 1928, shortly after women were granted equal voting rights with man. Lenke til kommentar

Budeia Skrevet 19. april 2016 Del Skrevet 19. april 2016 I stedet for å si women's liberation was made, er det kanskje bedre å si "Women's liberation was accomplished". Many changes for women were accomplished then, and even more in the 1960s. "One brave woman" er i entall, så da skal det være "woman" ikke "women". women were granted equal voting rights with man. Her skal det vel være "women were granted equal voting rights with men". Lenke til kommentar
