Kampen når nye høyder i betydningens verdi!

A football family at war have a lot riding on the Merseyside derby – their little boy will grow up supporting whoever wins this weekend.

The bitter rivalry between Everton and Liverpool will not only be played out on the pitch but in the Bootle home of the Winsor family.

Dad James is a blue and mum Becki Heron is a red, so when their son Jack was born they had to make a crucial decision over which football team their five-month-old son should support, choosing whoever won the next derby would claim the rights to Jack’s football future.

But with two derbies while Becki was still pregnant ending in a draw, the tot’s allegiances are still unclaimed – with today’s showdown is the big decider.

Becki, 24, told the ECHO: “It’s going to be very tense. Both sides of the family are coming round to the house to watch the game and we’re going to have a big party.

“Whoever wins it’s going to be devastating for both of us. But I think if Everton lose James will take it hard.

“He keeps saying the thought of Jack in a Liverpool kit will make him cry.”

The couple have been together three years and first met in the pub on a match day.

Becki, who works as a cashier at a bookmakers, said: “Football has always been a sore point between us, we’re always winding each up.

“When we found out we were having a little boy, we hadn’t even walked out of the hospital with the scan picture before James was saying he couldn’t wait to have a little Evertonian for a son.

“But I told him no way. Then when I was pregnant they drew twice, so today’s derby will be the decider otherwise the kid’s going to be three years old before we sort it out.”

Becki added that she was looking forward to getting Jack his first football kit.

“If Liverpool lose, I could grin and bear it but James has a lot more invested in it.

“I suggested he could support both teams but it’s all or nothing for James.”

So what if Liverpool and Everton draw again today? Becki has come up with the kind of sensible compromise that only mum’s do best.

She said: “I’ve had enough of it now. If it’s another draw he’s going to support Tranmere!”

Come on lads!
