The kite runner

 

In 2003 Khaled Hosseini published a book, The Kite Runner. It was a bestseller in the United States. Readers couldn't get enough of the story. In 2007, Marc Forster directed a film of the novel. Khaled’s book adaptation had captured many minds, in fact it is rumored that he broke down in to tears after watching the premier. The movie’s main character is Amir and the movie is actually a summary of his life.The movie is divided into three sections, Amir’s childhood, Amir and Baba’s years in Freemont and Amir’s return to Kabul. It is a sad drama movie but, as always, the book is better than the movie.

 

In the beginning of the movie, Amir is in his 30’s and receives a phone call from an old friend, Rahim. Rahim tells Amir to come back to Kabul ‘’to be good again’’. Amir gets a flashback of his childhood and old mistakes and decides ‘’to be good again’’. When he arrives Rahim tells him that Hassan, Amir’s old friend, is dead. Hassan had a son, Sohrab, who is now an orphan. Rahim tells that he wishes that Amir could find him and adopt him but, that’s not all Rahim wanted to say. Rahim told Amir that his dad slept with a slave whom born Hassan and that means that Hassan is Amir’s half-brother. Amir didn’t want to believe but he had to. He starts to search for Sohrab in the streets and orphan homes.

 

I liked that the actors could speak English very well. In most Middle-Eastern movies, you almost can’t understand what they say because of their bad pronunciation. It is sad and gives the impression of how people live in other countries. The movie did have a great potential but, I didn’t feel that it was something unique in it.
