About the project:

The project idea came when i got my new case, Corsair Carbide 500R. I was thinking about what could be done to the case, and figured out that painting the white parts orange was a good idea. When that idea came to my head, other ideas also came. So i started this worklog to share my project with everyone!

 

 

The plan:

The plan is to get the case look something like this:

The color will not be the exact same as this. This is just an illustration..

 

Other plans is to remove the mesh from the side panel and replace it with a smoked acrylic sheet. I am also going to sleeve every cable with orange sleeving. The hard drive bays and 5,25" baylocks is going to be painted orange, and maybe the gpu cooler.

Update 1

 

Some new parts has arrived!

 

The power supply I ordered has finaly arrived. It is the Corsair AX850W. I think i let the pictures speak:

I did also remove the mesh in the side panel. Since I am going to replace it with some acrylic i can just remove it now.

 

It was easy to remove the mesh. I just bended 13 of these and pushed it out:

Update 2

 

A few packages arrived two days ago.

I did cut one of those acrylic sheets, but it did not go well. Standing outside in the dark is not a good idea when you are going to cut acrylic nicely... So i have to cut the other sheet to, but i need to get it right. Some tips to how i can do it right?

Update 3

 

I tried to sleeve a little bit today. It's the first time ever I have tried sleeving. I am happy with the result, but I think it can be better if I do it more

 

Tried it on a molex to sata cable today. To remove the pins from the molex connector i used a small slot screwdriver, 0.6mm:

 

For the shrinking of the heatshrinks I used a heat gun:

 

Don't want to touch this!

Update 4

 

I found out that one of my fans on my gpu didn't work. so, I took the gpu cooler appart, and solder the wires off and on. Then it worked, but at the same time I did it, I sleeved the cable. The sleeve did fell out of the heatshrink some times, so i had to fix it. When i mounted it in my computer again, it fell off again, but I did not fix it today..

 

 

Both fans works again!

Update 5

 

If you did guess that I was painting the case, you where right. I did paint the case. I did also cut off some metal from the left side panel. A package has arrived too, with new gaming gear! The first package from phenoptix also arrived on monday, but they sendt me the wrong leds. I asked for 3mm leds, but got 10mm leds. I think I can use these 10mm instead. Just have to find out where to place them

Update 7

The package from Phenoptix arrived monday last week, but since it was the wrong LEDs, I did wait with this update. They are going to send me some new LEDs, that is the right LEDs. I did get 10mm leds, and asked for 3mm. And, i got 40 10mm LEDs and asked for 30 3mm. Well, they can still be used! So now phenoptix sponsors me with 40 10mm orange prewired LEDs and 30 3mm orange prewired LEDs!

Update 8

 

 

I did cut the acrylic sheet and mounted it on the sidedoor yesterday. So here is some pictures of that:

I have tried to mount LEDs arround the case aswell, so i will write another update later. I bought a box of orange paint today, so maybe I can paint the front and the top finnished before wednesday.

So i will write a review of it, and post the link to it here.

Update 10

 

Yesterday I painted the front and the top. The temperature was not good at all, but I painted it anyway, since I want to have the paintwork done before The Gathering. So I might sand it down and repaint the case later. I did also mount the cougar fan Aquatuning sponsored me with on my cpu cooler. I hope that the the new GPU cooler is coming tomorrow. It is the same as the one I got now, but the one i got now has a broken fan. I did paint the cover on the gpu cooler too.

I arrived at The Gathering yesterday, but this update did not come before now because I had to change my motherboard at arround 1am this morning (Thursday). So, here is some pictures of my case and shelf. Some new might come as well later.

Update 12

 

The secound package from Phenoptix arrived yesterday!

The content was 30 3mm Orange DIP LEDs, 12 3mm Orange prewired LEDs and 15 0603 SMD LEDs!

I guess they sendt me 3mm leds that is not prewired since the prewired is out of stock. I asked for prewired, but no problems with that, since i have changed my LED idea, so i dont need to remove the resistors now

Update 13

 

In this update I will post pictures of the stuff I did get for free and won in competitions at The Gathering. I will also post some pictures of the LEDs when I'm testing them where they will be.

I tested out some LEDs in the side on the acrylic sheet:

 

I can tell you one thing, SMD leds is a hell to solder on a fan controller! I think I used about 20 minutes to get one SMD LED on the fan controller. I used the pins on a 3mm led to hold the smd led on its place and soldered at the same time. Damn hard..Anyways, here is the result:

Finally, the package from Phenoptix arrived! Inside the package it was an arduino uno r3, protoshield for the uno r3, some shiftregisters, breadboard cables and a breadboard. Thanks alot phenoptix!
