The word santorum /sænˈtorəm/ is a neologism promoted by American advice columnist Dan Savage in response to statements regarding the US Supreme Court's decision in Lawrence v. Texas made by then Republican U.S. Senator Rick Santorum from Pennsylvania.[1][2]

To demonstrate opposition to Rick Santorum in particular and anti-gay politics in general, Savage requested that his readers suggest a new definition for 'santorum' in his column Savage Love, and announced the winning definition to be "the frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex"
