I det siste har det vært mange saker i media om et av de større forsøkene på malware til OS X. Dessverre har mange klart å få maskinen sin infisert med denne programvaren, dette er en tråd for å diskutere problemet generelt, bistå de som har fått maskinen infisert og litt informasjon om hvordan man unngår slikt i ettertid.

 

Hva er Mac Defender

Mac Defender (also known as Mac Protector, Mac Security[1] and Mac Guard[2]) is malware masquerading as an anti-virus program that runs on computers running Mac OS X. Reports of the software surfaced in May 2011.[3] The software has been described as the first major malware threat to the Macintosh platform.[4][5][6][7][8]

 

The program appears in malicious links spread by search engine optimization poisoning on sites such as Google Image Search.[3] When a user accesses such a malicious link, a fake scanning window appears, originally in the style of a Windows XP application,[3] but later in the form of an "Apple-type interface".[9] The program falsely appears to scan the system's hard drive.[3] The user is then prompted to download a file that installs Mac Defender.[3] Additionally, Mac Defender also hijacks the user's Internet browser to display sites related to pornography.[3][10] Users are asked to pay US$59.95 to US$79.95 for a license for the software.[3] A newer variant installs itself without needing the user to enter a password. How to remove this malware

 

If the malware has been installed, we recommend the following actions:

 

- Do not provide your credit card information under any circumstances.

- Use the Removal Steps below.

 

Removal steps

 

- Move or close the Scan Window

- Go to the Utilities folder in the Applications folder and launch Activity Monitor

- Choose All Processes from the pop up menu in the upper right corner of the window

- Under the Process Name column, look for the name of the app and click to select it; common app names include: MacDefender, MacSecurity or MacProtector

- Click the Quit Process button in the upper left corner of the window and select Quit

- Quit Activity Monitor application

- Open the Applications folder

- Locate the app ex. MacDefender, MacSecurity, MacProtector or other name

- Drag to Trash, and empty Trash

 

Malware also installs a login item in your account in System Preferences. Removal of the login item is not necessary, but you can remove it by following the steps below.

 

- Open System Preferences, select Accounts, then Login Items

- Select the name of the app you removed in the steps above ex. MacDefender, MacSecurity, MacProtector

- Click the minus button

 

Use the steps in the “How to avoid installing this malware” section above to remove the installer from the download location.

Viktigst av alt er det å surfe ansvarlig og tenke seg gjennom minst to ganger før man klikker på en link man ikke helt vet hva er. Nå er vi i en ganske heldig posisjon som Mac-brukere at det er særdeles lite malware og lignende til vår plattform, men det er viktig å huske på at idet vi vokser, vil også mengden potensiell fare for virusinfeksjon og svindel også øke.

In some cases, your browser may automatically download and launch the installer for this malicious software. If this happens, cancel the installation process; do not enter your administrator password. Delete the installer immediately using the steps below.

 

- Go into the Downloads folder or your preferred download location.

- Drag the installer to the Trash.

- Empty the Trash.
