nostrum82 Skrevet 14. desember 2010 Del Skrevet 14. desember 2010 (endret) MORAL TRENDS A Moral Trend is a side of a Moral Dimension. Trends are the major predictors of political opinions. Each dimension has two opposite trends. NonConformance and Conformance for Moral Order. Independence and Interdependence for Moral Rules. CONFORMANCE Conformance is the notion of a structured moral order. People who like Conformance tend to have many steps on their moral order ladder. For instance, they may believe that: God ranks above people Men rank above women Some cultures rank above others Some lifestyles rank above others... A structured moral order brings uniformity of thought and behavior across society. It encourages each individual to respect the established moral order. People on this side may support: Integration of church and state Family values Military programs Abortion-Control... NonConformance stems from the belief that children are born bad. Children must be taught self-discipline and self-reliance to become responsible members of society. Teaching self-discipline and self-reliance commonly entails following a set of well-established social guidelines ("traditional values") . The notion of whether children are born good or bad is morally subjective; it cannot be proven outside of a moral context. As a result, belief in NonConformance is a matter of personal conviction. INTERDEPENDENCE Interdependence is the notion of rewarding collective initiatives over individual ones. People who like Interdependence want to reward actions that: Increase the strengths of social ties. Empathize with less fortunate members of society. Help achieve happiness as a condition of empathy towards others. Rewarding collective initiatives tends to create a society with a high level of economic Interdependence among members of society (e.g. redistribution of wealth). People on this side may support: Strong government Social programs Gun control Crime prevention... InterIndependence directly stems from the belief that collective initiatives are inherently more effective than individual ones in reaching one's ideal Moral Order. The effectiveness of collective over individual initiatives is morally subjective; it cannot be proven outside of any moral context. As a result, the belief in Interdependence is purely a matter of personal conviction. Endret 14. desember 2010 av nostrum82 Lenke til kommentar
