Norrøn mytologi og referanser i Ringenes Herre?

Som tittelen antyder, lurer jeg på om Ringenes Herre-bøkene i større eller mindre grad er basert norrøn mytologi og/eller litteratur.

Her er alt fra personer og skapninger til steder og områder relevant.

The division between the Calaquendi (Elves of Light) and Moriquendi (Elves of Darkness) also echoes Norse mythology, which has its own Light elves and Dark elves.[76] The Light elves of Norse mythology are associated with the gods, much as the Calaquendi are associated with the Valar.[77]

As his related novel The Lord of the Rings became popular, elements of its fantasy world moved steadily into popular perceptions of the fantasy genre. In many fantasy novels today can be found such Norse creatures as elves, dwarves, and frost jötnar. Subsequently, Norse mythology has also greatly influenced popular culture, in literature and modern fiction.
