Exclusive one to one interview with sir alex on rooney. Mutv from 2pm. Don't miss it.

14:15 Sir Alex was asked if Wayne Rooney will play. He responds, smiling broadly: "Wayne's injured. It's an ankle injury." Remember, the Rooney issue will be discussed further after this press conference

Fergie: "His agent has intimated he won't sign a contract and he wants away. It's a shock." #mufc

Rooney er ferdig.

Fergie: 'I've never had an argument with Wayne at any time - he did have an injury and he confirmed it himself in interview with Sky"

Fergie: "There's an offer, if he's prepared to discuss. I know David Gill prepared to offer contract difficult to better elsewhere."

SAF says he's as bemused as anyone. Said there was no row. Shocked Rooney wants out. But says #mufc will leave the door open

14:20 Sir Alex confirms Wayne Rooney has asked to leave the club. He says: "We don't understand it, but Wayne's adamant he wants to leave."

2:25 Features Editor: Fergie basically said that David Gill has had talks with his agent and that Rooney wants to leave. Ferguson has spoken of his shock and disappointment.

2:25 Features Editor: Ferguson also said that he has spoken to him and that Rooney intimated to him that he wants to leave. This is sensational stuff. Fergie says there is an offer on the table if he wants it.

2:26 Features Editor: Sir Alex looks massively disappointed. He insists that he has never had an argument with Rooney in this time.

2:28 Features Editor: Fergie is defending his decision to rest Rooney. He is adament that there has never been a disagreement over the injury situation. Fergie says 'we all know fine well there was a minor injury. Nothing serious but it needed treatment'.

2:29 Features Editor: Ferguson says he will keep the door open for Rooney to stay at Manchester United. He goes on to say that the club has always done everything to help the player. He says the club are massively bemused as to why he would possibly want to leave.

2:31 Features Editor: Ferguson says he can answer no questions about why Rooney wants to leave as he has no idea. But he added, Rooney is 'adamant' he wants to leave. This is a sensational story, with Ferguson seemingly resigned to losing his star player. He looked hurt by what has happened. There was no fighting talk here, just resignation.

2:34 Features Editor: In an interview with MUTV today, Ferguson said: "David (Gill, chief executive) in the early part of the summer had opened talks with his agent and that was to be continued after the World Cup. I was in the office on August 14 and David phoned me to say he wasn't signing a contract. I was dumbfounded. Only months before he was saying he was at the greatest club in the world. I asked to have a meeting with the boy. He reiterated what his agent said, that he wanted to go."
