Gjest Skrevet 24. november 2009 Del Skrevet 24. november 2009 (endret) Text 4: Akiak the brave one “Wake up, wake up Kussuyok ” said a familiar voice. “Who's there, where am I?” I asked with a dry and vanquished voice. I hadn't been noticing it before now, but I was laying in the cold and wet snow. “You failed the physical/weapon test again, we have no time left, we have to reach the Angakok before the sun hits half day” It all come back to me now, the Angakok told us it was time to take the physical/weapon test, earlier this day. This test would determine wherever you would be a clothing expert or a prestige hunter, and I failed like a whale on land. In the end of the test we were supposed to kill a seal baby and bring it on our backs back to the finish line, but I didn't know that the seal baby's father were nearby and the father heard it scream and suddenly I got attacked from behind. I laid there conscious in the wet and cold snow, and no one knew where I was. But now my best friend and the best hunter in my whole class, Arrluk had found me laying here. I use to tease Arrluk because of his name, killer whale, not because his name is frightening but because his the best hunter in my class. “We have no more time to memorise, lets get on my sleight and get the huskies to run like they have never run before” said Arrluk with and clear and strict voice. I sat down into the sleigh and Arrluk stood behind me and ordered the huskies to go as fast as possible. We went straight ahead in a speed I never could imagine six dogs could come up to. It looked like we were going to make to the Angakok in time, when we suddenly drove right into a snowdrift. Arrluk landed with his head right into the snow and I jumped right out of the good and comfortable sleigh and landed on one of the dogs paws so the dog started to whimper. We were in middle of nowhere with no food, no clue where we wore and three of the dogs had broken free from the parkas, what were we going to do. The only thing we had left was the three dogs that were still struggling to get free and a hunter's knife. “Do you have any clue of where we are?” I asked Arrluk with a scared voice. “No, I have no clue, but if I remember right Angakok always said that if we get lost, sunrise is in east and sunset is in west.” “So what you are meaning is that the direction of the sun are currently west, and the village is in north, so we have to go straight ahead?” “If I understood Angakok right, that is exactly what I mean” “Well, there is no other solution than to start walking, because the parkas and the sleigh is destroyed” When I looked around all I could see was a big white empty space, with nothing but white snow and a couple of trees all concealed by the millions of snowflakes. We walked and walked with heavy footsteps, and there was absolutely silence except our shoes going in the same disappointed way and our breathtaking was with heavy breathing. With no idea of where it came from, we suddenly heard a big roar, and because of the training with the Angakok we knew that it was a polar bears roar. We both screamed “run” at the same time, and ran the fastest our feet could carry us. But the polar bear caught us up and hit Arrluk right in his back with it's pawn, so Arrluk rolled around in pain. “Get up and run” I screamed to Arrluk, this time I would not let the animal live, I would slay it like the true hunter I was. I took up the hunter's knife from my belt, and started to run against the polar bear, screaming to get the bear more afraid, and make me even tougher. It seemed like I was going to get a stab in it, but the bear turned around and hit me with its pawn. But I had no time to lay around and cry in pain, I had to get up, kill the bear, and save my friend. I got up, ran against the bear in anger, but again it was so fast that I didn't even have time to react before I got a hit right in my head, I fell around and laid there still. This was it I thought, as the bear walked angry against me. The bear suddenly started to whimper and fell down with a big bang. As it fell down I could see the chief Ataneq standing behind it with his hunter bow in the one arm, and an arrow in the other. He had killed the bear with an arrow, and if I knew him right this was not a deadly arrow, it was a sleep arrow, made by my master the Angakok himself. “Kussuyok, what in the Atka's name are you doing here?” he screamed like a relief. “We were heading back to the camp when we drove right into a snowdrift. The sleigh and the parkas got destroyed so we released the dogs and started to walk against the village” I said half crying. I got up walked to Arrluk and helped him up. “We started looking for you guys, because you didn't show up at the Angakok, we have been really worried, but thank Atka that I found you out here” said Ataneq. “That's great, but we really have to get back to the Angakok and know how our scores in the test went” said Arrluk. “You passed Arrluk, your the best hunter this village has seen in a long time, you have a bright future son” “What about me then I?” I asked gently. “You didn't pass, sorry son, but because of my rang as one of the villages leaders, and based on what I have seen here today, there is no questioning that you are a true hunter with a heart full of braveness. And based on that I would let you pass and become a glorious hunter” “I can't thank you enough sir, but I don't know if I could be a hunter with a name that means coward.” “If that is a hindrance, then your new name is Akiak, the brave one” “Akiak? I like the sound of that, thank you sir” “Now there is just one more thing” said Arrluk in a funny tone. “What?” did Ataneq burst out. “ “Rest of the way home” did Arrluk said with a smile in his mouth and laughter in his tone.
