NVIDIA Confident Of NV35

NVIDIA has released their latest NV35 reference card samples to the card manufacturers already and apparently the mass production of the NV35 cards will start rolling in June so there will be no delay this time. From the sources we have heard, NVIDIA is confident of NV35 this time and a new set of Detonator FX driver will be used to enhance performance. NV35 will be made by both TSMC and IBM but NVIDIA has not decided how many GPUs each foundry will make. The memory clock initially at 425Mhz was improved to 450Mhz on the latest NV35 card samples. From the picture below, it seems like NV35 card is still occupying 2 slots like the NV30 but the retail cards should only occupy a single slot.

Eight secret facts about Nvidia's NV35

0 It's already up and running in Nvidia's labs!

1 It wil use DDR - not DDR2 (!) memory because of the lower price of memory and PCB, more stability and availability in high volumes

2 It will have 256 bit 400 MHz (may be more for ultra) DDR1 memory interface. And there will be cards with 256 MB of memory, m'boys

3 It will have the same features set and probably near as damnit the same core clock.

4 It will be as twice, and and sometimes a bit more than that, faster in raw shader power for 1.4 and 2.0 pixel shaders whereas the NV30 was not such a strong performer as we wished - so this aspect is pretty tuned up, lads!

5 It shows from 1.5 up to 2.0 thimes performance of NV30 depending on the tasks and the final frequency specs.

6. It will be definitely faster than RADEON 9800 PRO

7. Other side specs like RAMDAC freq are the same as for NV30

GeForce FX 5900 Ultra 3DMARK03 test results

The test is done using Detonator 50 driver. The card is tested on a nForce2 board using a AXP3000+.

It can be seen that using 43.51, GF FX 5900Ultra is 10% faster than GF FX 5800 Ultra. When it is tested using Det 50 drivers, the difference rises to 23%.

The FX 5900 Ultra seems to to perform very in floating point calculations compared to early generation of cards.

GeForceFX 5900 Ultra / Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB

It almost seems like in every benchmark the cards go back and forth, dancing around each other. One map will run one card faster, another map will run the other one. One resolution shows a card faster, another resolution shows the other fast. It makes deciding which is the fastest card a very hard decision. Here we have an 8 pipeline card clocked at 380MHz beating in some cases a 4 pipeline card clocked at 450MHz with a lot of bandwidth. It appears in those situations that the 9800 Pro 256MB card just has a better architecture with faster shader speed. Then on the other side we do have the GeForceFX 5900 Ultra winning in some DX8 tests as well. One thing at least is certain, both cards offer awesome performance with AA/AF at high resolutions, and the 256MB of RAM does make a difference once you overcome CPU bottlenecks. If you only play games at 1024x768 and have an aging CPU, a card of these calibers will probably not help you much. But if you run at high resolutions with AA and have a fast CPU, a 256MB card can help stabilize FPS at those resolutions

Nvidia GeForce FX 5900 Ultra 3DMark 03

Here we have the test results from two runs of 3DMark 2003 from FutureMark. Both tests were run at 1024x768x32 resolution. Results from the test on the right were from 4X AA and 4X AS enabled in the drivers at performance settings, while the result on the right was with 8X AA and 8X AS using quality settings. A full set of tests were not run due to the controversial nature of this benchmark with reviewers and some manufacturers, such as Nvidia.

As you can see with the results from the test run using intermediate AA/AS settings, the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra scored well, bettering the 5071 scored by the GeForce FX 5800 Ultra preview card as well as the 4445 3DMarks scored by the Sapphire Radeon 9700 Atlantis Pro Ultimate. At max AA and AS settings we see a notable drop in performance, with frame rates for some of the "game" demos in 3DMark 2003 dipping into the low teens or worse. At equal driver and benchmark settings, though, the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra is the clear performance leader and should give the Radeon powered 9800 Pro series of ATI cards a serious run for their money.

"We got word from a NVIDIA partner that the NV35 will come with Detonator 50.xx drivers for all operating systems and that the driver should be available on NVIDIA.COM within three weeks.

In a seperate email it appears that NVIDIA will ditch the NV30 from the product line - completely. I don't know if this is true but based on sales and performance it appears likely. NV35 fixes all the things wrong with NV30; the 128Bit memory-bus is now 256Bit and the cooling solution is far more suave.

NV30 was launched with the PR image of "Are You Ready?". Soon after it's launch ATi responded with "Are You Ready For More?"."

Tror testen som er gjort på NV35 er seriøs. På den andre siden er det vel ikke de største relasjonene mellom 3dmark 2003 og generell spill opplevelse

Kan ta med hva Dave Baumann skrev.

"I've sent NVIDIA some screenshots of some, errr, odd things that appear to be happening in their later drivers in 3DM03.

As part of the beta team we have access to to beta builds that allow extra functionality for debugging, that non-beta members (i.e NV) don't. When using this mode numerous rendering 'errors' occur with the later drivers. Some are there in the 43.45's, more are there in the 43.51's. These same issues are not present on ATI boards."
