Men hva betyr egentlig Israel?

 

IS

 

What is "is"? It is the ultimate definer. It is "to be." Whoever controls the act of definition has the power of a god. Combine the two letters into one symbol and you have "$". So what god is being represented in these letters? Isis (pronounced "I see"). If you do not have time to read the full Wikipedia article, here is the synopsis: "Isis is a goddess in Ancient Egyptian mythology and is celebrated as the ideal mother and wife, patron of nature and magic; friend of slaves, sinners, artisans, the downtrodden, as well as listening to the prayers of the wealthy, the maiden, the aristocrat and emperor."

 

RA

 

This one is pretty simple. It is Ra. Again, a very abbreviated version: Ra "is the ancient Egyptian sun god. He is a major deity in ancient Egyptian religion by the fifth dynasty. Identified primarily with the mid-day sun, though he was said to be the sun in one form or another at all times. He commanded sky, earth, and underworld.. Pharaohs were considered to be the children of Ra." He was considered to be the one god of Egyptian monotheism. "Nearly all forms of life were supposedly created by Ra, who called each of them into existence by speaking their secret name. Eventually, humans were created from Ra's tears or sweat, leading to the Egyptians calling themselves the 'Cattle of Ra.'" Ra was represented by the All Seeing Eye or the Eye of Providence, which can be seen atop the pyramid on the back of the one-dollar bill. Many people still flock into buildings with stained glass reflecting the rays of Ra to unknowingly worship he and his "son" on his day, Sun-day.

 

 

EL

 

It is "he" or the definite article in Spanish for a reason. El "is the Northwest Semitic word and name either translated into English as 'god' or 'God' or left untranslated as El, depending on the context." It appears that El may have been analogous to Chronus, and "is not the creator god or first god. Ēl is rather the son of Sky and Earth. Sky and Earth are themselves children of ‘Elyôn 'Most High'." From El, we get the Elohim, which functions as both singular and plural, which is something that causes a bit of confusion when translating the Bible. This is especially true of the troubling passage about the Elohim in Genesis that states, "When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose." The offspring they produced were the Nephilim: "those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown." The Nephilim were giants (or Titans) and waged war against the gods. Most were killed in the Great Flood. It has been argued that the Elohim, who "came in to the daughters of men," were either fallen angels (despite no reports of angels being able to reproduce), the powerful rulers of the time, direct descendants of Seth, or most controversially (and perhaps most plausibly), an alien race that has long intervened in the genetics of mankind and continues to watch and rule over us to this day.

Uansett, en veldig intressant analyse av opphavet til navnet "Israel", det har blitt ganske klart at alt i Bibelen stort sett stammer fra andre skrifter/religioner og bare har blitt skrevet om i større eller mindre grad, skulle bare mangle om Israel var et slikt tilfelle.
