CFD Skrevet 3. april 2003 Del Skrevet 3. april 2003 The first is the fact that a 32-bit Athlon chip at Comdex _was_verified_ to berunning at 400MHz on a nForce2 board. The next is that several people have been reporting that the "Barton" (32-bit Athlon w/512KB L2) will run with a 400MHz FSB. Given the former, this makes sense. To date, most Athlons run with a 266MHz FSB (133MHz DDR) and several XP2400+ and faster products offer a 333MHz FSB (166MHz DDR) model. Newer chipsets from ViA and nVidia offer a 400MHz FSB (200MHz DDR) for both CPU and memory. "Supported" might be another issue though. Intel P4 processors uses a 400 or 533MHz FSB (100-133MHz "Quad Pumped") FSB based on Rambus technology. It has been shown, however, there is not a 1:1 ratio between the "effective speed" of P4 and Athlon FSBs, and Intel's "Quad Pumped" approach is not as efficient as AMD's "DDR" approach per MHz (a result of using Rambus' technology, which is faster, but also has greater latency times in transfer).
