Hello,

I am moving from London to Oslo and I have decided to start my own IT counsulting firm, how much is the corparate skatt in Norge? I will work on my own, so its not a big corporate.

You can answer in norwegian, I can read but I have a little problem with the writing :)

Cheers!

So how does the skatt work, if I got around 800 000 NOK yearly. Do I first pay 25% and then pay skatt one more time when I do a payout for myself? What I am trying to understand, how much will I get in the end when I am finsh with all the skatt paying? :hmm:

A business will have to pay 28% of all income minus expenses. Anything you pay out to yourself as a salary is an expense, so it is not paid for twice. Your business will however have to pay 14,1% (some times less depending on where your business operates from) in arbeidsgiveravgift for all salaries paid out. The 25% VAT in Norway is something you can leave completely out of the equation. Any VAT you pay you get back, any VAT you charge you have to pay back to the government. So the VAT is just for taxing the end user.

For you as a person, the tax is divided into two parts:

Your total income + any interest you make off any money you have in the bank, minus a bunch of things (interest you pay on your loans, some standardised "expenses" of about 60 000NOK in your case as well as possibly some other expenses if you have to travel far to get to work etc) and then you pay 28% of whatever you end up with when you add and subtract everything.

The second part is 7,8% of your salary, no adjustments for interest, expenses or anything. Also, there is IIRC another 6% for every NOK between around 420 000 and 685 000, and 12% for every NOK beyond 685 000.

Some of the figures might be slightly off, and I might be missing a few minor points here and there, but with all things factored in I'd say you would be looking at something in the high 30s, maybe 40% on your salary if you give yourself 800 000. As you can see, once you go beyond 685 000 you pay 47,8% for every additional NOK, so that is when it turns really bad. Also keep in mind the 14,1% arbeidsgiveravgift your business will have to pay off your salary. Anything you end up keeping within the business will be taxed at 28%.

hagfors:

Må man fortsatt betale arbeidsgiveravgift når man er selvstendig næringsdrivende i ett enkeltpersonsforetak? -trodde ikke det gjaldt da..?

Simonee:

As you probably know, you can write things of on your company, instead of giving yourself the salary... -So maybe you wont need to go beyond the 685 000NOK limit..

Like a car, gasoline, workspace, utilitys, furniture.. -everything you can combine with your work..
